Looking to Buy
I am starting a small farming operation and need some suggestions on implement brands. Will be using either a 45hp with cat 1 hitch or a 55hp with a cat 2 hitch. I will need a bottom plow, disc harrow, raised bed mulch layer and a water wheel transplanter. Suggestions on brands and specific models would be greatly appreciated.

Should be able to find some good used deals on bottom plows and disk harrows due to the interest in no-till farming.

Many times, there is a bigger difference in dealerships (customer support/ friendliness/...) than in product brand differences. Visit your local dealers and you can quickly see how you are treated, reward the good ones with your business. Ask your neighbors about their experiences at various local dealers.
Most brands offer light, medium, and heavy duty choices, you have to decide which best fits your intended usage and price point.
I went after a medium duty rotary cutter and really liked the looks of the heavy duty unit sitting next to it. The fact that it was right at the top of my tractor's lift capacity and the $ difference helped me stay on track and bring the medium duty home with me.

I was in your shoes, except looking for hay equipment. Best advice is talk with your neighbors and see what they are using. Second when you look around at the dealers, skip the sales folks and talk to the shop manager on what he is fixing. There are numerous used equipment web sites you can google. Also keep an eye out for spring auctions. Also check Craigs list and you local farm paper. Another place to look is your local CO-OP for sales and information..
