Well Darn, that is exactly what I want--that aerator from Ryan. How do these things discharge the plugs? Maybe I can build one--no actually I think I would rather buy one--have new airplane to build. J
Millcreek has a line of core aerators that might work for you. Though I couldn't find it on their website, I'm fairly sure they have a lighter weight version (roughly, 4 feet wide, weight 150 lbs, cost $600). The professional models weigh about twice as much and cost at least 50% more. I'm definitely in the market for one of these, but they are awfully expensive.
I'm not familiar with them - but I always thought the plugs get pushed out the top of the tube-things (spoons?). Sort of a continuous action - as each tube gets pushed into the ground the previous core pops out the top.
There - that's my engineer explanation for you!! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
I'm interested to know if that's the right answer!!
RPM,
The model 420 you see on their website, is in their heavy duty line. They also have an economy model, the 54-E, which costs about $600, but for some reason it doesn't show up on their website. I have their brochure which says that it is 54" in overall width, 51" coring width, 135lbs (for the 5 tine model). It looks like it is designed to have cinder blocks loaded on top of the unit for better soil penetration. Their number is 800-311-1323.
I have been looking for a core aerators to fit my B7300 for a while that would also be reasonable. I found another source not mentioned here and that is from the folks at Trac Vac. I am not sure of the WEB address I think it is www.palmor.com. They have a light weight version that might do the job (they have 2 models 352 (32") and 358 (48") that you might want to check out.
HAVE MILCREEK AERATOR, WORKS VERY GOOD. I USE 4 - 50 POUND SAND BAGS FOR WEIGHT. BOUGHT MINE AT AN AUCTION FOR $125.00, VERY GOOD PRICE I THINK. HAVE A BX2200, THREE POINT WOULD NOT GO DOWN LOW ENOUGH FOR AERATOR TO DIG INTO SOIL FULLY. DRILLED TWO MORE HOLES IN LOWER THREE POINT ARMS. BEHIND HOLE THAT WAS ALREADY THERE THIS ALLOWED LOWER ARMS TO DROP FARTHER DOWN.
