I am hesitant to post this questions as I feel dumb asking, but I just don't know.

For what purpose would you use a york rake, and/or a box blade? I know what a tiller is for, and yes, a BH and FEL /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I am going to be digging up my yard, filling, and regrading, then I need to level and seed for grass. However, I have LOTS of small stone in the soil that I would like to clean up. Would one of these be appropriate for leveling and cleaning? Are there other attachemts that would be better for this purpose?

I just re-did the front yard, and it took a few hours to break up the surface (with FEL and BH) level the mess (by hand) and then rake the lose stuff of the surface. Seems there must be an easier way to do it (and get more seat time!). I have about 1/2 acre to do, but if these implements only cost a few hundred dollars, its worth it.

Also, what do these items cost for a BX23?

TIA, and sorry for the totally newb question!

By the term "small stones", I would think neither would help you!

The rake can be used for:
* Peparing land for seed
* Clearing/gathering/raking rocks, limbs, debris (Items < 3"
would be a challenge)
* Limited land leveling
* Limited soil moving
* Limited soil disturbance or fluffing

The boxblade, which by the way I'm a relative newbie to the art, can be used for:
* Moving soil
* Grading
* Leveling
* Soil disturbance or preparation
* Tractor ballast

72" rake ~ $350 - $500

72" BB ~ dependant on duty grade light, med & heavy $400 - $800

BTW...From a instructor, no question is a dumb question, specially when it comes to tractors and safety

Thanks for the answers.

Looks liek the BB might be besto fr my need, I wonder if I can get a used one around here. Seems a little steep for my limited use.

I also how it would handle the "gravel" thats mixed with the soil.

I don't know the size of a BX23 but I'm thinking it might be in a 60" or smaller implement range, meaning less cost per implement. How wide is your tractor and how many HP?

The BX is 23hp and should use 4' implements.

I think most BX owners, including me, go with a 4' box blade, 5' rear grader blade, 6' rake.
