Rest in Peace
Expenses: About $50/year for chemicals, electric for the pump I don't want to think about.
You obviously use a great deal less chemicals (chlorine) up north than down south, and have a shorter season for using a pool. Twenty years ago, I figured it was about $50 a month (not a year) for water, chemicals, and electricity. I'd expect that to be considerably higher now. And then I probably only spent 3 to 5 hours a week on maintenance; vacuuming, checking chemicals, backflushing the filter, etc.
Our girls were 9 and 12 when we had the pool put in and we enjoyed it for at least 4 or 5 years. And then the girls were old enough and good enough swimmers that they worked as life guards and our little pool was seldom used for another 3 or 4 years, and then the last couple of years, I think I got in it twice; both times for some kind of maintenance.
