In the middle of 50hr service have question?

The newer filter is a pain to install!! I normally like a bigger filter, but this one doesn't fit the tractor. My guess is that Kubota is doing a "one size fits all" for B, BX, and probably ZD's.

I remember the 50 hr service on a Sunday morning well. Thought I had the wrong filter because the new one (Made in America) was smaller. Scared me so I logged on TBN and found out that was the normal. Today I buy a new filter and when I get home the number is different than the one I bought last year. But I just read where someone explained the 74034 replaces the 15241 so I will relax. It would be nice if the dealer mentioned that when I bought the filter.

Answering the shavings question. I used a magnet and then compressed air on the screen. Worked well. even stuck the magnet in the hole and got a few filings.

Anyone switch to Synthetic oil in their 2200?
Also what is the FRAM Filter number and are they cheaper that the bota filters? Fram probably makes them anyway.

PCMEM,

It was indeed a white filter and I returned it on Saturday at 8:00am when they opened. I talked to the parts lady and she first informed me that it was normal for Kubota to have a couple different filters that fit and she turned over the unit and showed me the oring being set in rather than on the very outside of the filter. She said probably that was the case with this one, but would double check (especially because that is when I pulled out my part number). While looking it up and printing off the recommended reference sheets, she looked at her cheat sheet in the back. She indicated that she did show both numbers there, so went in the back and found the correct number I was looking for. Pulled it out and said I guess your right about the size difference. Anyhow, she went over to the print out, and it only called out the number I had given her. She gave me the new filter and apologized for the mix up. It was actually $1 more, but she didn't charge me for it. I appreciated that, since I had lost the time the night before.

So, to make a long story short, I don't know if the other would work, but the original was kinda tight to get out and get a wrench on, so I think I will just stay with it as long as possible.

Hoosier Daddy and 3 Cows,

Thanks for the input, I like the magnet for the next time, think I will try and remember. As for the gas, yeah I kinda agree that would have probably worked, but I just used the air compressor as I didn't have too many to begin with.

On another note, has anyone ever thought about straining out the hydraulic fluid and re-using it? I was looking at my filings which weren't much, and the fact that my fluid looked new, and was thinking what a waste of fluid at 50 hours of use.

Anyhow, I put it in a new container when draining, so I was thinking I could strain if I wanted. Maybe through some cheeselcoth or something similar and use on my 300 hour? What are peoples thoughts? Probably isn't worth it as it really is only about $50 worth of fluid and taking the chance probably isn't a good idea, but thought about it anyhow.

I think you can do better than the Fram alternative. Everything I ever read rated them at the bottom of the heap. If you do an internet search on oil filter ratings you will see several individuals who have researched filters. All trash Fram.

Here's the WIX part # 51064 they're WIX filter lookup good but reasonably priced

Thanks Lawman, I meant to say WIX.

I'll be danged, I see what your 74034 search came up with. When I search using the old bota number 15241 it comes up with the same WIX number. Is the WIX longer like the Bota Factory? Guess I can just go look at one.

Another question. The 2200 book says use SAE 30, SAE 10w-30. The dealer always sells me 15W-40.

What do you folks use?

R^2,

I prefer the longer grey filters but can no longer get them locally. May be my dealers don't stock them or Japan isn't shipping them. I was told the new units were the old "economy" made in USA filters to compete with WIX/NAPA/FRAM alternatives in price. The number history as I have it is;

factory -> 15241-32090 -> 15241-32093 -> 15241-32099 -> 70000-74034 -> 70000-15241

I've kept them and cut them open on the lathe (what a mess /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ) to investigate and compare. Been meaning to organize the results, just haven't gotten to it yet.

Later days,
Michael

If you ever get to it, I would be very interested in your findings. Pics would be great too, but even without, I think it would be great information to share.

As for the filter #, it may be because mine is a BX1800 that the numbers are different. Like I said when my dealer actually looked it up, they only showed the 15853-32430 number. Not the 70000-74034 that they had given me.

Anyhow, as far as the 15853-32430 is a good number at my dealer and on Tractorsmart. I think next time I may order from Tractorsmart as theirs is something like 6.80 and my dealers was something like $9.80.

Judging by your string of numbers, I would expect that Kubota will also offer alternatives for mine in the future, right wrong or indifferent.
