in your opinion, whats more useful, a logging winch or wicked grapple?

My feeling on the grapple's I see posted on this sight is, I don't like most of them...

It's just another tool to buy, and I can do pretty much EVERYTHING they do, plus more with a GOOD set of AJUSTABLE pallet forks with a single grapple between the forks... PLUS I have the pallet forks already on for all kinds of "other" jobs...

Grapples are too big/heavy and most times, are in the way, where adjustable pallet forks with grapple eliminate those problems...

I think MOST guys just buy what they think "looks cool", as that's what I see them say on here, all the time!

I've used them both, i'll stick with what I have...

Thanks DeerHerd and Piston. I have loaded plenty of logs but I have never operated a so called "Real Grapple" and that was why I asked the question. I wanted to understand the difference between the two type handling logs. So if two guys who have operated both types have different opinions I guess it is like most thinks in life. "Different strokes for different folks".

SR it is a good thing you have a thick skin making a statement like that. You better take cover

I don't have the remote for the winch, I had to save money somewhere! LOL! My buddy has a very large flat bottomed grapple, it's a monster. (I think it may even be called that!) The jaws are so big 95% of logs he cuts roll around in there. He has to try and grab them in the tips but it cuts way down on the capacity because he is constantly holding the weight 24-30" ahead of the pins. I have gotten into too many heated conversations about grapples and find it much better to just congratulate people on what they buy, most will never know any better anyways. I REALLY don't care what anyone buys and I have owned enough styles to know what works best for me. You wouldn't want to bet against me in a race loading a trailer against a flat bottomed grapple though.......:)
If the race was loading a trailer then give me a knuckle boom loader.

The adjustable pallet forks with a claw are sweet. I want a set in addition to my grapple. The grapple is way better at moving short crap. Which one is better at moving debris from a building demolition? image-3773147990.jpg image-3417197552.jpg image-468094687.jpg Can you load a truck without the log rolling down the forks and landing in the truck? I can gently set logs in the truck with a grapple. image-3129265801.jpg

Can you pick up brush out of the yard on unlevel ground without tearing up the grass? I find it very difficult to do without sticking the tips in the ground. Much easier with a grapple. Can you spread a pile of dirt without putting on the bucket?

I think they both work pretty good,

IF you have short pieces, adjust your pallet forks closer together...

How much bld destruction do you do with your tractors? I don't like it, too many chances for flat tires...

I can load a log as gentle and smooth as a baby's bottom... lol

It's all about choosing a set of pallet forks and a grapple that WORK TOGETHER!

While I'm at it, I'll EDIT this pict. in too,

Yes to the first question... And yes to the second too, but I pick up a pallet to spread the dirt...

I've also grappled a 2x12 to plow a bit of snow...

If someone stole my FEL bucket I'd report it to my insurance company. If someone stole my Grapple I'd hunt them down like a dog. :D

In your second paragraph, if you would change "I can do pretty much EVERYTHING they do" to "I can do MOST THINGS they do", I would agree with you still having one exception. A Grapple will do those things sooooooooo much faster and more efficiently. :)

Next paragraph, I don't consider my Grapple as too big/heavy at all. I never consider it in the way. :)

Next paragraph. I can't argue the "looks cool" thing. I here that a lot too.

Last paragraph. I've never used forks with a single grapple. So I'll stick with what I have too.... ;)
