Part of the reason I haven't picked up a manual is because I want to be sure it's a 3500 like I've been led to believe it is. Once i get the pump and box off, i'll start it up and pull it in the shop and use the engine hoist to put the cover back if I can get caught up on projects. I figure everything should be pretty straightforward, only worry I have is if there are any adjustments that I need to make anywhere.

have you checked the bellhousing stampings?

Your tractor is a regular 3000 or 3600 depending on the year. The only thing different is the front end and loader. From the look of the grill its a 70's model because its a one piece. (if its original). When you get into the lift cylinder pay attention to the placement of the oring. There's a regular oring and a leather ring. The service manual says to soak them in hydro fluid for 10 minutes before you put them on the piston. If you need more pictures Let me know. I'm exactly in the same spot on my 4500. I'm using a $12 deer 4:1 gambrel hoist from HF to hold the lift cover. Its been that way for the last few weeks. I have a lot go'n on right now but hopefully I 'll have that portion done by the end of the week.

The stamps on the bellhousing have a suspicious weld over the top of them. From what I've searched it's the one number that would really give the info to figure out what it is. The guy I got it from said it originally had a backhoe on it, but he didn't have as much use for it so he had the box scraper put on. If it helps with id, it's a 3 cylinder diesel with a simms pump on it. Has a 4 speed with a torque convertor, no rear pto, and has mechanical outboard drum brakes. It's also a 12 volt positive ground system. I'll keep track of it all as it comes apart. Any recomendations as to where to get parts? It looks like it will be a couple of weeks before I can really get to it. The dumptruck is torn apart in the shop, engine just got back from machine shop for a 280z i'm working on, and there's a datsun pickup I have to get up and running. Thanks for all the input guys.

Do you think this transmission would be hard to find parts for? I ask because it had a gear break so the last owner just took it out so now I don't have 2nd or 4th gear. If i'm digging into it this far, maybe i'll split it apart and fix that while i'm at it. Also have some wheel studs that need replaced, and some hoses. The list goes on.

I can already tell this is going to snowball into a winter project. Top cover rebuild, pump inspection, hose replacement, weld and gusset fel, replace missing wheel studs, split apart and fix transmission gear issue. Looks like a manual is in the near future, better start saving those paychecks or start racking up the credit card. Recommendations for parts outlet?

No biggie, you got it. Its just a bunch of 1hr jobs here and there until spring, Lol. Thats what these forums and old service manuals are about. I hope the other guys "in the future" are talking about fixing/restoring their "todays" tractors 40-50yrs from now like we are. I always laugh when I look at the oil pan of my 4400 (64hp) its solid 1/2" cast iron and the rear axle is bigger than anything you'll see under 100hp today.
