my 2305 was ordered with them but when it came in it had R4,told the dealer I wanted the R1 tires he gave me some money if I would bring the bill for a swap,so I got a new set local and got the rims on ebay ,and he did what he said he would do ,so I have a extra set of R4s on rims,

On my 4240 there's no lip on the rim for the bead to get over to seat itself. So the tire just has a maximum pressure and weight.
Strange. Tractor tires usually have cautionary info on the sidewall regarding seating the bead in case it is difficult for whatever reason. Seems that the modern tires have it anyway. :confused3:

The beads are different because of the lack of the lip. They are very wide, I know because I let the pressure get too low and broke the bead. Most tires snap or pop as the pressure gets high enough to push it over the lip. I'm guessing that the tire was designed knowing the wheel would not have that lip when they set the pressure limit.

It's 34 psi BTW for the front ag tires on my 4240 and what I thought was a weight rating was actually just the pressure in kPa.

Over the years I just assumed R4's were for applications where the tractor is going to be spinning the tires on most all task and not just the normal slippage from discing or breaking gound.

A working FEL drive tires may turn enough to go two miles for every mile actually traveled. The R4 puts a lot more rubber on the gound so they will spend easier.

On the backhoe the R4's are heavier ply rating and I would bury the rear wheels all of the time due to spinning if they were R1's and most likely knock a hole in them too.

Now I have no experience with turf tires except on the lawn mower but we are not talking about tires with low traction like turf tires that will not mark a lawn as bad because they have no real biting grip.
