While I am not 100% brand new to tractors, used them as a teenager a few decades ago, this upcoming purchase I will be making will be the first time I have purchased the equipment vice just driving whatever it was that my uncle had on his farm (Massey Furgeson, Alice Chalmers, and Ford were all in stable). As my primary usage will be on residential turf, but yet still using in the pasture land to put in a garden, and or other projects I am trying to determine the best tires for my efforts. Any enlightenment that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Lots of threads for you to read at the bottom of the page. ("similar threads")

It is really going to depend on how much pasture work and how muddy it could get. Turfs are best for lawn, but they won't get you far in a muddy or very slippery pasture. R1's will rut up your lawn but great for pastures. R4's are good for gravel and construction sites, aren't as hard as R1's on lawn but are not as good as Turfs on lawn.

And thus lies my problem. Trying to decipher which one. I may just go with less "lawn" i.e. 25 feet in the back and sides, while doing a solid 50 feet out front so as to reduce the amount of "turf" to be damaged by the R1/R4 tires.

Welcome aboard Clemsontractor. I've been agonizing over tire choices since we built here in '89 and have read every thread I could find:)

While R4's have worked very well here, there's a real temptation to try Turfs at some point. There's no mud or woods for me to deal with. Everything is either yard or paved.

I've watched many videos considering the same thing. I will likely be buying a new/used scut before too long. I will get either r4's or turf tires if I buy used. If I get new, I am going to opt for the R4's. There is a pretty good video on youtube showing the differences between r4 and turf tires. TESTED | Turf Tires VS. R4 Tires (Kubota BX23s) - YouTube

Just remember that R-4's are the roughest riding tire that you can buy because of their stiff sidewalls. I have a John Deere 4410 (35 engine hp) and have adequate traction in most situations with turfs.

I have heard this but especially with newer tractors and better seats, I don't feel a thing. My Kubota is a little rough in ruts, but my new Massey rides like an air seat and it isn't. If you get the air seat I'd assume the tires make no difference on the ride?
