Inexpensive Pond Liner

I bought a ton of bentonite in 40 pound bags. They also have it in 3000 pound bag. Texas Bentonite delivers also. I spread bentonite on the dam area of my 30x70 foot pond to seal some leaks. I just throw it out with a bucket. I just ripped up some pier boards and poured the stuff out under the pier into the water. Easy Pizy.

It is all about reducing stress for us. Thanks for posting the pic. Every day I walk by this hole, something's going to happen, I can feel it. :)
Well, then, if its about reducing stress, you should probably go with the folks that say get a commercial liner or you'll be ripping it out too often. ;)

Yup, try as you might, sometimes the simplest solution is the best, Occum's Razor an' all....

Brandi, I googled Bentonite for sale around my neck of the woods, not much came up. With that and the fact that the ol' back ain't what it used to be, I'm leaning towards the rubber. But thanks for the input.

I think there is some up in Idaho. Texas Bentonite ships all over the place. They mine it down in south Texas...and bag and distribute it in Comanche Texas.
I understand about the back. I buy 40 pound concrete bags now instead of 80 pounders. Lot less stress, but these bags are getting heavier. I would gather you need a few folks to help get that liner in place. Go with the good stuff. It is cheaper than redoing any pond project later.

Pilot Hill is in N.California tucked into the foothills not far from Coloma in gold rush country. Elev. 1350 ft. Not far from Folsom and Sacramento (30 miles). It is named for a hill that overlooks the Central Valley to the West and the mountains to the east. Early settlers would light fires on top of the hill to guide in those crossing over the mountains. Fellow Settlers like the Donner Party, only they didn't make it.

Stopped by the pond store at lunch... owner is away on vacation.

Quoted 75 cents a square foot for 45 mil pond liner which makes a 20 x 30 $450.

Daughter said she might be able to do better if she calls her Dad... I've bought left overs as low as 50 cents a square foot which would be $300

The only local source for Bentonite I've found has been pottery supply places... kind of pricey last I checked.

It is like super fine clay that expands something like 40 times when wet???

That's pretty close to what I can get it for and I wouldn't have to pay to ship. Thanks for taking the time to check in with them. It's good to know that the price I got from the nursery is not totally unreasonable. I noticed that the fusing material is pricey stuff too, so it's hard to save much money by buying the smaller pieces.

Sorry for the delay... I really thought is would be under $400.

Maybe you can ask you local dealer to price match?

I can PM the info if you like.

Take the perfume and fragrances out of cat litter and you have Bentonite Clay.
