<font color="green">One of the desirable properties of the Optima battery in addition to leak resistance is vibration and shock resistance.
A battery used in a diesel tractor generally receives much more punishing motion related abuse than a battery used in a passenger vehicle.

Hello guys,
Sorry to bring up this issue again, but I think I have some acid starting to leak from my battery. I took a picture but it's hard to see. I will post another clearer picture tomorrow.
Does this look like I'm going to have to replace this battery soon?

From the pic, it looks like you should pull the battery, clean it, and treat your posts on re-installation. If your battery is one of those ID'ed as a defect, your dealer should know. If you see the same problem after a dozen, or so, hours, call your dealer immediately
I guess I learned and accepted that I needed to pull my batteries twice each year for maintenance. I'm not saying there isn't a problem here, just suggesting a seasonal routine.
BTW, I replaced my stock JD Strongbox battery with an Optima within a week of delivery. I still pull it, clean up around it, and treat it like a normal battery every late spring and end of fall. This is not a "zero maintenance" area of a tractor, no matter what brand of battery you have.

txhawg, I don't know about the Optima but I have a 2000 JD 4300 and not wanting the same acid spewing battery, I bought a Delco Freedom battery and built a new hold/down device. Cleaned and painted the area where the battery sets and replaced the vinyl covering over the headlite wires. Delco was about $78.00 as I recall. It has been beat, bounced and bumped around and not failed. All I have around and on the battery is dust. Jim in Middleton, ID

I'm a Cub Cadet owner but had some corrosion problems with my Cub as well. They weren't to bad when I caught them but I'm sure would have gotten far worse had I left it. When the original battery died at about 6 years I replaced it with one of the Delco Freedom batteries. Price was around $75 + or -.

I just bought a 4520 in Oct. and i just had my battery replaced because it was leaking . Where, i don't know , neither did the dealer,he just replaced it.

An Optima battery may also be installed on it's side without leakage.
This same battery issue also affected a lot of New Holland tractors as well.
My problems showed up at 50 hours. I installed an Optima at that time and haven't had any battery problems since.

i have a 2004 4410 e-hydro and i just turned 60 hrs. on it,so far i have no issues with the battery. i did notice that the terminals had been coated with a protector but as of yet no problems. i previosly owned a 2001 NH tc29d and it suffered the acid attack.i had cleaned it numerous times and had inquired with the dealer about the problem and they told me they were having no issues with those batteries,however as luck would have it,while the machine was in for other warranty issues,they were preparing to load to bring it back and the battery failed so they installed a new battery and there were no longer any issues with it.
