Does anyone have any experience with the Ingersoll Loader Backhoe Compact Tractor? What do you like about it, what don't you like about it.

Also, I have been told that these particular tractors depreciate in value much faster than other tractors because they are two wheel drive and gasoline powered. Supposedly, the japanese diesel 4wd tractors keep their value much better. Any truth to this?

completely true!!! Perfect example is my skidsteer. What I was buying it from my friend we called the dealer to get list on it. He said it was $4200 and my friends jaw almost hit the floor. He had just paid $12,500 for it the year before. Then we called another dealer and he said $11,200. Turns out the first guy had priced the skidder as a gasoline instead of diesel. That year they made the same exact skidder but one had a perkins in it and the other a gasser. You see that with other equipment as well. A diesel will always outsell a gas engine. Maybe not by that much but it will always outsell. Another example is pickups. Right now the 94-97 diesel pickups are selling at a prime. They are bringing on average $5-7k more than a gasser of the exact same configuration. More than made up the average $3500k that the diesel cost back then. I get the equipment blue book every now and then just to see what things are worth and diesel is always 20-50% more than gas.

Cowboydoc,

This "equpiment bluebook" you mention in your post. Is it for trucks or is it for tractors? If it does contain information about tractors, where do I get a copy?

Well, as an Ingersoll owner I thought I would chime in. One thing I have found out is that the Ingersoll and older cases are built like tanks. Yea, they do have a gas motor, but they can be rebuilt. If you were looking for a loader for 12 hr days, 6-day weeks, for years, you may need something bigger. But for smaller jobs, it would work well. I have a 444 garden tractor, and would grab up one of loaders in a second if the price were right.

Hi,

I don't have specific experience with the Ingersoll-Rand Loader/Backhoe, but I did look at them before I purchased my B2910. It looks to be a very solid, rugged machine. (I also looked at the Terra Mites, and they too looked very rugged.)

The reason I didn't buy either of those machines is because the Kubota/JD/NH/Cub Cadet product lines looked like they were "more refined" and designed using current technology. The IR and Terra Mites looked like they were built in the 60's or 70's. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing...they did look solid, I just wanted a new tractor that looked like it had been designed sometime after I left high school (1978). Probably strange logic, but so is the need/desire for a loader/backhoe on 2/3 acre. Sometime you have to put aside the nitty gritty details of the specifications and let your emotions speak out. For me, they ultimately said Kubota.

I don't think the IR should be counted out if you feel its price/performance/features fit your needs.

Good Luck,

Rick
