I swapped the banjo fittings and now the priming pump doesn't lock up after a few pumps, but the tractore still quits after a few seconds. I tried to see if the fuel supply line from the tank was collapsing, but couldn't really tell as I had to run around the tractor once i got it started and it would typically quit just as i got there. The line is pretty easy to squeeze shut though so maybe thats it but I'm still thinking that I don't have it exactly in time. As I mentioned before, I'm not real familiar with diesels but I've worked on gas engines for most of my life. If the injection timing is too far advanced could it cause this type of operation?

I replaced the rubber fuel line from the tank to the injection pump with a stiffer one, but I still can't get it to run for more than a few seconds. I also verified that the return line is not blocked and that the check valve is in the correct location. Any other ideas? I'm about ready to pull my hair out. Since it will start and run for a short time, it has to be something simple that I am missing.

I think its time to get a fresh set of eyes on it. Many times when I am stuck another person can figure it out in a matter of minutes. I guess I get tunnel vision.

This may be off the wall, but I had this same sort of issue with an engine once and it turned out that the fuel cap breather vent was plugged. The Tank was pulling a vacuum as fuel was used, starving the pump in a minute or less. I took the cap off and the engine ran fine, then I discovered the vent plugged.
