My neighbor recently gave me a YM1500. He said when he parked it in the fall, it was running.it would not start when he tried to get it started this spring. He put on a new fuel filter and tried to bleed the system, but there is no fuel coming out of the injector pump to the fuel lines. I assume the injector pump may be bad. I removed the panel above the pump and disconnected the throttle from the injector pump. The piece it was connected to on the injector appears it should slide from side to side, but will not move. It is sticking out the side of the injector far enough I cannot pull the injector out of the opening in the side of the tractor. I am looking for advice on how to remove the injector pump. I am also wondering is it likely I can repair the injector pump. I know I can buy a new one, but it’s almost $400 and he told me the tractor has an overheating problem and there’s a crack in the block. I’m not sure I want to put the money Into a new injector pump at this point. I can’t tell how bad the crack in the block is because it’s been covered with JB weld.

If I am understanding correctly you are talking about the rack being stuck on the injector pump. The rack has to be in a certain position in order for it to be removed through the opening. I would suggest you work on getting the rack to move. My try some penetrating solution and lightly bump back and forth.
Yes, this is my first time working on a diesel engine so I am learning as I go. From what I can find online you’re correct the rack is stuck and will not move. I sprayed it multiple times yesterday with penetrating oil and did not get anywhere. I guess I will just have to keep working at it. I’m just trying to make sure that I wasn’t missing anything and there wasn’t something holding it in place.

Do you have the manual downloaded for this to help you out with the bleed procedures?
You probably want to try something stronger than penetrating oil, e.g. carburetor cleaner, SeaFoam, etc., and if possible get some SeaFoam into the injection lines to soak into the pump.
Diesel injection pumps are extremely close tolerance mechanical items, and as a result, it can take a time and effort to get gum dissolved. Patience is a virtue on this one.
Personally, I would dump the old diesel from the tank, check that the diesel tank is clean, replace the fuel filter again this time filled with SeaFoam, and try to bleed the system to the injection pump.

I took the fuel line off and blew a little compressed air (10 psi)in the injector pump to get most of the diesel out. I then used a funnel to fill it with Berryman carburetor cleaner. I let it sit and continued to come out every day and try to work the rack. Today I went out and the rack actually started to move but was very stiff. I then poured in a little bit of automatic transmission fluid to lubricate it. After a few minutes, it was moving much less stiff almost freely. Thanks for the advice about the carburetor cleaner, and the patience. It definitely worked and prevented me from doing something drastic!I will post an update once I try to bleed the system if I get it started.
