Inner air filter

My L3830 came with both filters, and the owner's manual calls for replacing the inner filter yearly, but that's probably overkill. My dealer's parts department says they don't sell many inner filters, though.
If I had a tractor that had a provision for an inner filter but came without one, I'd put one in, for safety's sake.

MHarryE, First of all I want to thank you. It is great to hear from someone who was on the engineering side of AG machines. I have read many of your posts and have enjoyed and absorbed what you have to share. :thumbsup: Do you see any need to change a perfectly good inner or safety air filter? On my RTV for example, there have been several outer filters, none of which were torn or damaged, only dirty. The inner filter looks as good as the day it was installed at the factory.

I do not go by Kubota's recommendation, but that is from experience with other equipment. Unless the safety element is visibly dirty or if you find a problem with the primary element, I see no reason to change yearly unless you put a lot of hours on a machine. However I would inspect the safety element to make sure, to be frank I purchased filters with my tractors and RTV and the original safety elements are still in my supply cabinet because they looked like new when I changed the primary. The primary on my L5740 is always one of the worst looking filters I have ever seen because it gets sooted from the exhaust exiting right under the air intake. Still my safety element stays clean showing the primary filter is doing its job. Also there is the air restriction indicator to tell you if the filter is clogging.
