The shotgun.. now that's a permanent deterrent. I'm all for that kind of an anti-theft device!!

Soundguy

well if nothing else I could probably put a lot of dimples or holes in the thieves vehicle to make them easier to catch later.

I put an old cot in my shop/shed to comply with the new KY law about being able to shoot intruders in your home with no warning.

Like some of the best minds around here on the site have said, if they want it they will get it.

My best Innovative anti-theft ideas?I pay the insurance bill on time every time.
Yep, I’ve been hit several times. One time I knew it was the temp guys I hired, they not only took my bobtail truck, but filled it up will every tool I collected over the last 20 years, welders compressors, saws etc. They did their home work, they cut the security system phone lines at the street.

Next time they hooked up to a large dump trailer and flew away.

Insurance came through for me on new replacement value of everything, now instead of a 20 year old compressor, saws etc,, I have a bran new compressor saws etc.

Does it suck, you betcha, but having new stuff takes a whole lot of the pain away. Don’t feel bad for the insurance company either I pay 30k plus a year in insurance, so in 10 years, they paid out 40k.

I’m working on a day/night security camera set up as I type. Motion sensors lights etc. At least I will see who is doing it. Hidden camera low in faux rocks to get license plates, infrared alarms, as they approach secure area etc. Will all this work and stop them NAH.

I live close to the Mexican border, so like the cops say, your stuff is already in Mexico.

What communist state is that?

Too bad they don't live in the 'freedom of rights' state of florida. Down here we don't let criminals take advantage of citizens by having stupid laws that prevent citizens from using guns to defend themselves.

Looks like the NRA needs to hold a grassroots convention in that state and get the communist leaders there drummed out of office on the next election..

Can't even use the shotgun deterrent anymore! There's a news spot today about the farmer who is being prosecuted for having a shotgun when he attempted to prevent some lowlife from pilfering fuel from a neighbors property. The shotgun wasn't even loaded, and the lowlife is defending the farmer! The prosecutors have decided to be lenient and reduce the felony assault charge to two misdemeanors of "pointing a gun" and "disorderly conduct". Sheesh!

daTeacha The dog looks to be a rotweiller. They can have great personalities but you don't want to get one after you.

Anti-theft for tractor or implements. Lots of ideas posted but you don't have to start a tractor to steal it and any "hidden" switches or valves are whistling in the dark unless the thief is mentally challenged. A trailer with a winch will load just about any tractor even with implements on the ground although if it won't run, implements on the ground takes more of the bad guys time. Of course the bad guy can disconnect the implement to save time.

Park the tractor where it would be likely that a thief would be noticed or feel like he might.

I have a security system wired into my house and attached shop, garage, and tractor shed for tractor and implements. If you loop a flexible jacketed multi-conductor cable through some part of the tractor or implement like the frame or the back wheels so that the tractor can't be taken without cutting or breaking the cable then it can be protected by your security system. An attempted theft will set off your alarm and the monitoring company will call you but if they can't get you they call the police or other party you choose in advance.

The flexible neoprene jacket power cord type wire with at least 5 or more conductors is a good choice. You can install a couple wall sockets with pin layouts not easily confused with your AC power. You plug in one end of the cable into one socket, run the wire through the stuff to be protected and plug in the other end. There is at least one male/female pair of connectors along the run. This is a convenience and extra security (explained later.) This loop of cable is a "ZONE" on your alarm panel. If the wire is cut, broken, or unplugged the alarm goes off.

The "smart" crook may try to jumper (bypass) the wire, substituting his own length of wire which is not run through your valuables. That is why you have multiple conductors. One of the conductors is continuous but he won't know which one. If he bypasses the wrong wire (which is not continuous) that act sets off the alarm. Say you have a 5 conductor cable. That is an 80% chance the attempted bypass will set off the alarm trigger your remote camera, release the attack trained pumas or whatever.

The reason for the connectors in the run of cable is for convenience in looping the cable around and through implements AND because inside one of the connectors all but one wire is not connected. The bad guy would need to unplug these central connectors to see which wire is continuous but pulling it apart to look sets off the alarm.

May sound complicated but it isn't. It is just a few yards of multi conductor flexible multi strand wire. Not too expensive as it is small gauge, even 26 or 28 ga is just fine if it has a good protective jacket. It is just one more zone on your alarm panel or it can be combined with another door or whatever if your panel is maxed out.

Even if you don't have an alarm system you can run the wire and use it and a small relay to turn on a siren and or strobe light. If anyone is interested but not an electronics type, I could draw a schematic. You could build something like this for the price of the siren, wire, some plugs and sockets, a relay, a switch and a couple hours tinkering. I had a setup like this once and powered it with an old car battery on a trickle charger so it would run for a long time even if power was off. I took the guts to work one time and hooked it to a big red pushbutton switch and hung a sign on it that said, "DO NOT PUSH THIS SWITCH!" IT was set off by curious Bozos about 3 times in two hours.

I designed a variant of this for a budy who had lots of expensive stuff in his car. It made no noise at all but paged him if anyone opened the hood, trunk, or a door. You wouldn't want him mad at you and breaking into his car would ensure that.

Sounds like the shotgun needs to be pointed at the prosecutors.

Soundguy,
Glad you brought that up about the rights we have here in Florida. I just felt my property taxes go up again as another wave of snowbirds flew in to roost for retirement.
Daddy still doesn't lock his tractor up, but he did start locking his house a couple years ago.

I've seen 1/2 inch chain at tractor supply. Can you cut that with hand bolt cutters??

HF sells 4 ft long bolt cutters fairly cheap.

Again, all the clever hidden switches and fuel cutoffs will only stop a ******. Crooks are frequently not stupid just dishonest.

Lots of dune buggies don't even use keys to start and cost thousands but are left parked with impunity due to removable steering wheels. Still, if the bad guy has a winch on a trailer he can haul off anything that will slide or roll up the ramp.

Not an option for everyone. Not for me. Not for the farmer next door.
