insect swarm?

We live in east central Missouri,with house located in woods. Last week or so right at sunset we hear a low drone,off in woods of some sort of insect,almost like a mosquito in your ear. Have tried to locate,with no luck. We know its not criqiuts or cicadas. Any ideas what they could be or what to look for? Thanks

That's a pretty good guess I'd bet. Does MO have black bears?

Happens most evenings,and yes there are bears in Mo,but not common and have not heard or seen any reports of bears near us recently.

Someone in the distance is flying a drone or other RC thing, or operating machinery? Maybe it isn't insects. Sound can do strange things.
