i have a older model kubota tractor,1976,L22DT,the proplem is that where the mount attaches to the block of the engine and where the differtial hooks up too,and the support for the loader.the bolts have stripped out,on count of lifting too much with the loader.anyways whats the best,,inserts or helicoils to strength the bolts in the block ? plus i need your help in repositioning the loader to another place for support on the tractor, was thinking i could mount it to the rear of the differtial for more support than where the mount was in the first place ! HELP......SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THESES KUBOTA 'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! johnnybebad60085@yahoo.com

if it was me, I'd do one of the following,

1, oversize the holes to the next standard size for tapping.. if that is not an option due to brackets or web thickness, then I'd tap for pipe plugs or bolts, then drill back out standard. I've seen pipe plugs fixed stripped holes in blocks before with great results.

IMHO.. inserts or HC's into cast iron for torque or weight/vibration bearing areas are not ideal. I don't even like them in spark plug holes...

that's just my opinion. ps. last tractor I restored had about 200 broke bolts and studs and stripped holes in the castings head and block. took me 2 weeks of drilling out, extracting, and re tapping it.

there are exactly -0- inserts or HC's on my machine.. everything was repaird as above. either drilled tapped to next size.. or tapped and plugged and redrilled oem then tapped.

My first choice would be the next larger bolt size. Thread inserts (Keenserts) are much better than Helicoils and that would be my second choice provided there is enough meat not to weaken the casting. I've had great success with the tread inserts. Use red Loctitie when installing and they are a great fix. I cannot ever remember one failing. Can't help you with the loader mounting. Pictures there would be of help for that.

Agree totally. Overbore if possible, then KeenSert. Not a fan of Helicoils.

neither am I.. I've used the keyed inserts oly a time or two.. and think they are a much better product than the HC's. Ive removed bolts with HC's that came out with them when thread locker was used. I usually opted to stay oversized.. or plug and tap original if possible.

had a HC break in half on a guy i was helping do some work on his car.. was a bear to extract the last lil bit of it it from the hole...

..........welllll, threadlockers are never to be applied to Helicoils. If you need a locking feature, then just buy the locking Helicoils.

Having said that, I would go the Keensert route for this particular problem.
