Good thinking...take a look at a 790. Good machine, pretty simple and factory loaders are available. Figure $9000-$13000...

if you are going to buy a new tractor used i would go with yanmar like a 2610d or 2620d power shift with ps you get a heavier tractor more pto speeds. parts are way less fredricks sell them reconditioned in usa they do a nice job you get a new koyker loader.we sell them with a coldwater loader for $7900.your jd850 has a yanmar in it.

Just wanted to thank you all for your assistance. I decided to go bigger. A '91 Ford 3930 w/loader. Paid 9500, hope that's not too much.

Yeah, but no dealer support...and the buyer has to do any repairs. No service manuals available either.
Lot of guys like Yanmar and they do build a great tractor, the 790 (Deere design, Yanmar built).
But those grey market machines are risky unless the buyer is a good mechanic.

I have a Yanmar 186D. It was made to sell in the USA and it has been a great machine for me. A real workhorse. It is amazing that some of the guys who sold them still support them and you can still get a lot of Yanmar parts although I haven't needed any parts. I get filters and fluids from JD. That said if you have to have a tractor that works when you need it JD might be a better choice. Have you noticed that the older Yanmar made John Deere tractors have been selling cheaper? Part of it is that you can't get some of the parts anymore. I think Yanmar isn't making them anymore(the parts). JD is among the best for parts availability even though the prices can be truly shocking.
