I'm looking for ideas to attach a 3500 HF winch to my tractor (RK25).
I was wanting to put it on the front but maybe it would be best on the back?
I was thinking permanent on the front somewhere. Removable would be fine for the back. 3-point? Hitch receiver mount? What gauge of wire to bring to the back if that is where and is there a quick connect for DC power?

If you have installed, what would you do different?
I'm looking for thoughts and hints.

Agree with Moss, need some clues on how you want to use it.

I put a 2500# HF winch on the front of my tractor. I mounted it to the bar where the suitcase weights go (since I don't have suitcase weights). Wired directly to the battery and with a remote control. I've used it to pull my truck up a slippery hill with the tractor acting as an anchor and to pull logs out of the woodlot. It is NOT a forestry winch and HF winches have a very low duty cycle. I rarely use it but it has been very valuable when I did need it.

I used this hydraulic winch on my old 3430HST. I made a bracket which would attach to the front frame or the rear drawbar. I powered it with hyd. hoses plugged into the 3rd function valve or a rear remote. I like it since there is no switch or wiring involved. The only drawback is the engine has to be running to use it.

I don't have a need for it much so it mostly sits on the shelf. I have yet to make brackets to attach it to my newer tractors.

mainly to break beaver dams with a homeemade beaver dam breaker. I throw it in the water and pull right now. I'd like to do it remotely.
Also to use pull logs once in a while to trails that I then can carry down with the tractor.
Maybe then if the tractor gets stuck, but I don't plan on that happening anymore.

I spose - but doesnt the tractor make a pretty good winch by itself?

We have one on a Suzuki samurai, 87 model deer hunting rig. Stock tires and all. Winch does fine.

imo winching lets you pull stuff a lot better as ground traction is generally the issue. sheave up a winch a few times and drop the loader or a plough on the back and the tractor will stay pretty much put as opposed to spinning the tires trying to pull in a creeper gear. also look at a hydraulic winch like BDH above mentions. , then you dont need to worrry about duty cycle of the winch or burning out alternators or batteries.

Not familiar with your tractor, but some don't have room for a front winch due to the loader crossbar interferring when the loader is in the lowest position, such as digging below ground level.
