Installing Hoye / Fredericks Power Steering Kit and Need some Hydraulic routing HELP

Its impossible to have pressure if that return drains unrestricted into the sump.

My YM186D has a plug by the operator's left ankle that I'm pretty sure is a sump return opening. I wish the YM240 did, then I could have installed the new loader valve as Power Beyond instead of series.

Good news and not so good news. I looked again and saw that I do have the port that Winston and California talked about...its just on top.

Not sure if I want to keep it in this location but at least I could try out all of my work and check for leaks. No leaks and the steering works - I need to do some tweaking because now the engine side cover doesn't fit without the steering hitting it, but I think I can figure something out.

The bad news.....The diverter valve has adjustments and the instructions say to set it between 2 and 4. Well, when you adjust it so the steering works and has good power, I have NO 3pt and no loader functions. To get some power steering and loader/3pt function is not ideal at all. The loader is sooooo slow and so it the 3pt and the steering is just a tad bit better than when it was just manual. Me not happy. I will talk with Hoye on Monday.

One thought that I would like to kick around is that the hoses included in the kit are larger inside diameter that what is used on my VTek Loader. On top of this, instead of using the included larger diameter hose from the bypass port on the diverter valve that feeds the loader valve, I reused my existing VTek small diameter hose there. Could I have a inside diameter restriction going on here? Should I replace the hose to and from the loader valve to larger diameter?

Were you happy with your loader and 3 point performance before the power steering?

Strictly an opinion, but doubting the smaller hose is your problem. However, I would rely on Hoye's feedback on that.

My old 2002d had the factory gearbox power steering and had a diverter box. It still had plenty of flow left for the loader and 3 point. I see no reason your 2020 shouldn't.

There's a noticeable difference between my YM240 where the loader speed is nearly independent of engine rpm, and the smaller YM186D with power steering where its smaller loader doesn't do anything at low rpm. I have to rev it to the minimum rpm I would use for driving around, to have power for the loader. (or 3-point). Diversion valve effect???

This is a dealer-installed 'Yanmar' PS kit sourced from some US company when the tractor was new.

Perfectly happy and it worked great. With the new PS systems it's either loader or power steering and not both. Not acceptable. It's not just slow but probably 4 times slower. My comment about the size of the hose was my thinking that nothing has changed except that the power steering has fluid dumping in to the sump instead of flowing to the loader valve. A wild guess but who knows.

I have not tried to lift a load and will do that tomorrow.

Sorry about this next sentence and its ramifications.

Does your loader valve have a power beyond port? If so I would switch your setup so that the power steering(PS) gets its fluid from the loader valve(Yep pretty much starting from scratch). In my daydreams of doing this I thought that I would use my power beyond to feed the PS valve block so to avoid any potential (in my mind) issues that the PS may cause. You'll get full power to your valve bank just like you did before, and you'll be "powering" your PS.

No it doesnt, but i would consider upgrading to fix this issue and to get float and regen. Hoping Hoye or someone who installed one of these on a v tek loader will comment.

If it works as I think it does you will find no fluid is being dumped to the sump unless you are actuating the power steering. At least that is the way power beyond works on a loader valve. When the power steering is actuated the used fluid will dump to the sump. When not actuated it flows through the loader valve.

Surely there is a way to overcome and we are hopeful Hoye has the answers.

My thoughts were the same as todd. Use PB to feed (or power) the PS set up

Hi Scotty,
I'm sorry that you have having trouble. Have you replaced your spin on hydraulic filter and cleaned your internal screen lately? I'm wondering if your flow could just be restricted and there is just not enough to run the loader and power steering together. The power steering will take some of the flow so it is important to have all that you can get. There are tons of these kits being used and they all work just fine so there is an answer and we will figure it out.

We didn't write the instructions and yes there is a lot to be desired but the setup described works very well. I'm not really sure if using the PB setup would gain you anything but I'm not a hydraulic expert.
