Another trick is to use an edger. What I did was set my mower to the lowest setting to make a ring around my property. Then I rented an edger ($35 from Home Depot), set it to max depth and just walked around the mowed perimeter make the slit to place your wire in.
My PetSafe Deluxe InGround Transmitter was recently fried by lightning. I ordered a new one - lifetime limited warrantly - for $35 today. During the process I opted to upgrade to a unit with a remote trainer for $109, so they're sending me both (they didn't, or couldn't, cancel the old one ... so for $144, I get a new version of my original transmitter, plus my new trainer transmitter).
If you're interested, you can have the brand new replacement transmitter for my cost ($35) plus the brand new flags that I never used, as well as the original brand new boundary wire (I bought and used some thicker wire) ... plus shipping. $10? The limited warranty is good for all units.
Then you'd only have to buy a replacement collar. They're going for about $60 brand new on Ebay for a regular size dog, or slightly more for a deluxe small dog coller (8lbs or so, but also has 4 levels of correction) for $90.
Sorry for the plug. Not trying to make a profit - just trying to help a fellow tractor person. If anyone is interested, send me a EMail at
goehm@aol.com. Otherwise I'll take my chances on Ebay for profit.
