Hello,

I'm nearly ready to order a Land Pride loader 3rd function kit for my L3301. The valve kit number is #380-152A.

The instructions only cover a tractor with loader. The instruction do not apply to tractors with loader and backhoe. Mine has a backhoe (BH77).

Sooo does anyone have instructions or advice on how to install kit on a tractor with a backhoe?

Thank you!

Mine has the landpride 3rd function and BH77. I'll try and take some pics of the hose routing tomorrow. Just off the top of my head I believe the power beyond goes back to the backhoe first then to the loader and then to the third function all in series. I believe you'll need a new PB hose though because the landpride kit comes built for loader only applications only as far as I know.

Awesome! Thank you! How do you like the Land Pride 3rd function?

It's great, very comfortable handle and buttons. I tried out the wr long 3rd function kit on another tractor at my local dealer and didn't like it. The handle was bulky, uncomfortable and it had a toggle switch vs easy to,use buttons.

Great feedback! Thank you! Did dealer install your 3rd function kit for you?

Just curious because I am new here. Am I correct in understanding the third function kit is to allow another set of hydraulic controls, such as a root grapple? If this is correct then what are some other uses or attachments? I need to get my Christmas wish list started soon...LOL

Hello! Great question. Yes the third function on a loader is primarily for adding a open close circuit on a loader.

The circuit could be used to control a grapple, snow plow (angle), 4 in 1 bucket, etc.

The system uses an electric switch to shift a hydraulic solenoid valve. So uses another switch you could also uses the same valve with a different set of hoses to control a rear implement like a thumb on a backhoe.

I'm still puzzled why tractor OEMs don't offer these valves as factory options. I know Kubota is finally offering on some of their tractors.

So here's some pics of my hydraulic circuit. Power beyond goes straight out to the backhoe and loops back under the right side floor pan and then connects to the third function valve. From the third function valve, flow comes It and goes directly into the loader valve. Pretty straight forward as long as you have the correct hoses.

I greatly appreciate those pics!! Thank you very much! Really helps me to understand what is going on.

Thank you for taking the time to do this for me! (0:

They don't have to be electric, they can be a manual lever too. Diverters are called 3rd functions frequently too. A diverter is just a 2 way valve that will divert your existing lift or curl circuit to a 3rd function. Generally electrically actuated, but could in thoery be manual too.

You can hook up anything to a 3rd function to some degree. I hook my hydraulic SSQA post hole digger to mine & run the power angle on my SSQA snow plow.

A true 3rd function was an OEM option on my L4060 Grand Kubota. Not sure if it's an option on the economy Kubotas. Generic aftermarket diverter kits are easy to install. True 3rd function kits aren't that hard to install either.

This helped me so much. I have been trying to figure this out for 2 days. My Kubota dealer didn't really know for sure how to do this without adding some tees. You really need to make a youtube video of this because there is practically nothing on the web on how to connect a third function if you have a back hoe on the tractor. Again thanks

Are there any limits on the operation of this 3rd function? I have been told that the electrically actuated valves (solenoids) such as those used in this kit have some severe limits on duty-cycle, but I cannot find any citation or basis for that. So, for example, a front-loader style hydro-powered snowplow would not be usable because its constant 3rd function flow would burn out the solenoid on this kit.

You can use a power angle plow , grapple, 4in1 bucket , But not a hydraulic motor like a post hole digger something that has to be on all the time

Hmmmmm.....a PHD was exactly why I wanted the 3rd function, based on this Messicks youtube video -2XRRoSth_8 (Sorry, this wretched site wont let me post a link) Actually, the PHD and a grapple. Is using a PHD really a problem, the duty cycle is that short?

Our valve is made for momentary use like open / close or left / right operation. It is not made for rotary implements like augers. The valve has a extremely tight tolerance and if held down to use a rotary attachment it will heat up and swell causing the valve to seize. Thanks!

I just got a call from Messicks. Seems that they might be gonna revisit the video I cited. The service guy stated that they do not recommend using the Kubota 3rd function with an auger....even though the referenced video clearly shows them doing so.

Do you have a rear remote?

I do not. Im interested if this is a potential solution!

You could add it and run your post hole digger or do you have a backhoe ,You could use those lines add a valve for the post hole digger

I run my plow & auger of the OEM 3rd function valve on my L4060HSTC. The plow is only very momentary intermittent usage, as a grapple would be. I havent done a lot of PHD work, but no issues yet. It's about a 1 minute on, 1 off duty cycle.
