Insulation over HVAC system in Attic

Kenmac, they did install the switch.

Now I know what the switch does. Did not know if it killed the AC or triggered an alarm. Good to know it kills the AC since if that happens I know what to check after the breakers.

Yep, If it's wired in correctly. If both drains happed to get blocked . Water fills up to the switch & shuts off the A/C so, water doesn't run over the top of emergency drain pan & cave your ceiling in

AHHHH!!!

Guess next AC season I should turn on the AC, get into the attic and see if I can trigger the switch. Hopefully it will turn off the AC. The pan and drain is right over our living room. Would be noticed real quick.

The best option would be to build an insulated, air tight enclosure around the complete unit. Keep it sealed from the attic space but as an extension of your living space. That way, the unit is in conditioned space and any loses from the unit are negligable since your not blowing air into the attic.
