Insurance adjuster advice?

Hey Harv - I would think after this weekend Joe might be heading back to Texas!

Your statement about a fair settlement for the insured and fair to the company is the best way to effectively handle claims. That attitude gets more claims settled more quickly, which makes everyone happy.

Thanks to all for your advice. Our adjuster came out this morning. He seemed pretty knowledgeable - - at least to us. He saw some things that we had not, & he did not seem to nit pick.

He gave us an advance to handle incidental expenses like getting the roof tarped, etc. So far so good. I can see where it will take him the better part of a day to put together the entire estimate on our place.

He informed us that we will likely have to move out for the repairs. That seems ironic - - we stayed home during Katrina, but will have to leave to clean up after her.

Sorry Harv, it wasn't Allstate. It is the company with the initials SF.

Like I said, so far, so good. Hope I can say that in a few months. I don't have any reason so far not to expect fair treatment.

It's been a few years since my need for an adjuster. Hail had damaged our roof.
He looked at the roof and got some measurments, then he started the "age depreciation" route and a % settlement. I said we had been paying our premium for a number years also so if he could arrainge an equal discount on premiums we would consider his offer. We received a check for the total cost of the new roof.

Good luck.
