Insurance seems to go in cycles...
Companies will stop writing and then have an affiliate write at higher premiums/less coverage.
This has happened several times in the California market.
Had 27 years with no claims on any of my Rentals with Fireman's Fund... they came out and said they are dropping all policies below 500k and of course it would take several rental homes to even come close.
It was a way to avoid writing in areas with older/smaller homes like mine in Oakland...
Thankfully, I didn't have all my policies with one company/broker... Called the other company that I use and he said he could do it because of my no claim history... otherwise, he would not have been able either.
It can be real tough when you live in the city too.
Mom's policy was dropped after 45 years and no claims... she was offered another one at almost twice the price and we went with CSAA, the auto club... they really can't pull out of California without going out of business... also had to switch the car insurance too, which was a loss to the Independent agent my family has used since 1942...
