Is anyone familiar with either Donegal or AIG insurance?

I'm working on getting quotes and these 2 companies are working on it.
I have State Farm now and prices are getting a bit high. Not sure if Donegal or AIG will come in much lower but if they do, I may switch.
Cost is one factor but more importantly, I want a company that is on "my side" (not quoting Nationwide) and won't fight me should there be a claim.

No on both business but;

So far I have had 4-insurance companies (home/auto) and not one was ever on my side. They can’t since they are in the market to make money. If you find one that does not fight on every claim, let me know. Or they might not fight but you policy goes up 200% or stop the insurance all together.

So far MetLife is pretty fair for me, but clueless with some issues at the same time though. My policy is, “let them ask the questions and I jut answer them as they are asked”.

bczoom,
I have Hartford for my cars and house. I switched for the same reason you are contemplating. I went to an Independent Ins. Broker and he did all the leg work for me and saved me about 100 bucks a month. Hartford has been pretty good thus far but I havn't used them yet. Insurance prices are already high here so unless you absolutely have to make a claim it's better to fix things yourself.
Thank You Mold /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Just thought this might help you out.

Mike,

Sorry, I don't understand this part of your post.

State Farm hasn't fought me on any claims. I've made only 1 in the past 10 or 20 years but when I do call them about maybe making a claim, the agent always tells me no problem (but didn't say whether my rates would go up).

Thanks for the info on Hartford. I too am working with an independent agent but... he's running into snags with some companies.

Apparently, some companies have limits on what they'll insure. E.g. A couple companies the agent is working with said they wouldn't insure me because of the number of vehicles I have. They have a limit of 3 vehicles for a 2 driver family. Makes no sense to me... You can only drive one at a time so what's the difference?

I don't make a claim unless I really have to.

sorry brain fart. Trying to do bills too.

Just do not make more then 1 claim in 5-years or your coverage is bye bye or sky rockets. It does not matter if you had zero for 20-years and then had 2 with 1-year.

Thanks roughcut. I've been reading through their page. Got a bit nervous there for a second... I didn't see PA listed. It was way at the end.

I bookmarked the site. I want to get the list from my agent of who all he contacted before I start with more companies. (I'm not going to look at companies that already turned down the business through the agent). Hmmm. Still wondering as I wrote that. I've never been turned down for any insurance, credit, financing... but now I am because I have too many things to insure?!?!? Still makes no sense to me.

I've had AIG for about 2 years now. Not sure how good they treat you, since I've never had a claim but their rates are the cheapest I could find.

I use AAA for auto insurance. I found that AAA offers discounts to Credit Union members. Check with all companies as to which organization they offer discounts if you are a member. AIG offers discounts to AARP members if you are over 50. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
AAA is a company that has never questioned a claim. I have not had a claim in 44 years. Wife seems to have one every so often. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
