Thanks guys,
I have a few contacts with survey and pipeline companies when I was a landman. Just caught the last 1.6 yrs of the oil boom here in Okla. Had a chance to do R.O.W. work for another company doing pipeline clearing. This is where I first got interrested in getting into this business. So, ok I think I will reconsider and check out insurance and see what it will cost me. I also plan research the land at the Court Houses to check on any easements that might be on them before I start any clearing on any property. Found that some land owners did not know about all the easements that run across their property. I think this will help me avoid future problems. Pipline companies have to do this for all R.O.W. clearings. Do any of you do this for private land owners, I know the R.O.W. work will already have that done before you start. Last thing I'm still not sure how to figure out how to charge for this type of work? By the acre - by the hour - mile? I know one thing for sure I will be in this for the money and do not want to be the rant (who are these Guys) by being stupid in my bids. I think this is the most I have written about anything since I got out of college.

Looks like you have done your homework. Some people will want to win a bid at any cost but you sound smarter than that.

A flat rate per hour is hard to do when doing ROW work. One section may be just small seedling trees and the next may be 12" or bigger. Take some pics, so we can see what you got.

I know of two companies that have years of experience and get paid by the hour on ROW...

I'd rather have a fixed price and work like a mad man.

Just started 116 miles yesterday....solo so far.

Yeah, must be nice.

Around my area, you have to bid the job, with another 5 people bidding against ya.

Heavyduty,
Have not bid on any thing yet just getting info on what all I need to know and have, to do R.O.W. clearing. Such as any special permits or license I might need besides Insurance? Do you need GPS to keep on line. I know the company I helped used a pretty fancy metal detecter to keep on line. They had to go thru alot of trees. This line had not been cleared in many years. What else should I know? Spill your knowledge on me if you would please.

I just realized something. Are you talking about new ROW for new pipeline or are you talking about existing ROW maint. Two different animals.

Robbie,
old R.O.W. , will not have the equipment to do new. Plus I do not need the stress of keeping way ahead of the pipe laying crew.
