Bird,

Farmers and Farm Bureau were two I tried. Farmers said no! Farm Bureau said give them all of my business or no!

As I get/got older I brought insurance betting I would crash, burn, wash away, get runover, lose everything (except my mind..but the VA covers that!), and other things.

The insurance companies charge a price as a bet we will do all those things and then they thrown in those darn agents aand deductables making us nuts or poor which is not covered (unless we are below poverity level!). Have a great day as it is good to be alive with Grandkids and land. I work in D.C. and rush home to be on the land for sanity sake! Jim

Jim my paternal grandfather said he didn't believe in insurance; said that's bettin' against yourself. If you buy life insurance, you're bettin' you're gonna die and the insurance company is bettin' you won't. And the same with other kinds of insurance.

I've visited D.C. but never lived or worked there. One of my wife's brothers worked in D.C. I think his title was deputy undersecretary of agriculture. And he lived kind of out in the country at Manassas.

I agree Bird, but sometime it helps those left behind.

Your insurance information saved me money on a Polaris Ranger I was ensuring elsewhere.

I had land in Edward,Ok in 2006 then sold it as it was too far to care for and enjoy.
Brought near home in Va. Now working it on weekends to keep it natural, but cared for.

We are sorry for what you guys have gone through this year. A friend now owns the Ok land. He was Blessed to hit an Artisan when he was digging his pond. Filled quickly and took care of his animals.

Best to you,
Jim

The one thing I have found is Insurance Underwriting seems to be in a permanent state of flux...

A few years ago, the policy Mom had for 40 years was non-renewed and she had to scramble to find insurance... never a claim.

Her independent agent almost went out of business because it affected so many of this 60 year old firm's customers.

Mom ended up going with CSAA and they wanted her car policy... so she switched and the independent lost that too.

I have noticed most of the independents are gone now...

With me... it seems that there is a real ebb and flow... at one time agents are falling over themselves to quote and at another time... their hands are tied...

I had Fireman's Fund for 20 years, no claims and then get a letter of non-renewal... called the agent and was told the company had instituted a 500k policy minimum... basically not writing for those of more modest means... Have to wonder how that worked for them when the market crashed.

One thing I learned is to never have all your business with one agent or company... when things change... you will have more options...

There was a moratorium in my State on new policies... Insurers were protesting some new law and many could only get the State Fire Plan coverage...

I called my agent who is very selective and he was able to get it for me... seems like top agents do have some pull...

On my tractor, I only inquired if I was covered and never verified policy limits... just that I had liability when using it on my land...

As I recall... my BX23 just came in under the restrictions of less than 25 hp mowers

Follow up... Thanks for the recommendations. This forum is fantastic. Turned out my home owners policy didn't cover my tractor - they wanted to write me a separate (expensive) policy. I ended up going with KTAC, $423/yr covering tractor and attachments, $250 deductible. Nice friendly folks to deal with.

I have an inland marine policy which covers my tractor for damage or loss only on and off the propert for $400/yr. Does not cover liability.
