Didn't think my wife had it in her, but she found me a 1/2" sheet of steel for a welding tabletop. Haven't seen it yet, will take some pics later after we go pick it up.

No pics, it got dark before we got back. But it's 2'x8' and already has pipe legs welded onto it. I really don't need one that long. Seeing as it's kinda narrow, I thought about cutting it in half and rewelding it to make a 4x4 table. Just don't know if my welding skills are up to doing a 1/2" thick butt weld.

Oh give me a break! Nothing to it, you can handle the welding. No one says you have to weld overhead. Bevel both sides, tack both sides real good, weld a little on one side, flip it over and weld some on that side. Repeat as many times as necessary.Just don't know if my welding skills are up to doing a 1/2" thick butt weld.

when you flip the sheet over do you weld directly opposite of what you just welded,
That's what I'd do! Also keep an eye on it with a good straight edge. If it curls one directions, put more weld on the other side to pull it back. No need to be in a big hurry with the welding, let it cool, or you will warp it. But then we can straighten it too.![]()
Now she is a keeper !
