They did, and not only as a mercy killing.

Personally I don't quite understand 1/2-tons in the first place, even with good and reliable engines in them. They're nice riding cars, yes, but at the cost of painfully low payload.

Worst, I think, are the unrealistic J2807 tow ratings, making people think they are good tow vehicles.
I think the GM was the clear winner in the 1/2 ton class. The 3L isn’t perfect, but it puts out 305HP and in the Tahoe, was getting 25MPG average.
I’d own one.

I don't know much about those, but they seem like a superior alternative - if you want a 1/2-ton diesel.

Had a '14 Ram 1500 for many years, by the way, a good little car. Had the V6 gasser and was probably the most boring car I've ever owned. Got about the same mileage as an Ecodiesel, too.

Now we have two 1500s, but only because they could be had with 702 hp. Mileage be damned.

I saw one of them last week while having my Ram serviced. This one was only $130,000.

Yikes! I think we paid about $78K (each, obviously) in '21. But those were somewhat lightly optioned, and bought well under MSRP instead of with an ADM.

There is a problem with the RAM 6.7 diesel where the heater grid bolt loosens on the intake manifold and drops the nut down the intake manifold and right into cylinder 6. Destroys all of cylinder 6, including the block and head. Banks Engineering has a new intake manifold that eliminates the problem. Glad I drive a 7.3 PSD for towing the tractor.

Glad you like your 7.3L. I had a few of those 20+ years ago.
I’ll take my chances with my 6.7L with double the power and double the towing capacity.
I don’t have time for 20+ year old trucks that tow about the same as today’s 1/2 ton gas F-150. 😂

The bolt doesn't loosen, the bolt melts and it is pretty rare for how hyped up it is. You just give that stud a wiggle at each oil change and if its tight your good to go. The general consensus is it happens because the heater relay malfunctions and stays on too long.

As mentioned, it seems to be a very rare occurance.

Better yet, it's painfully simple to eliminate the potential issue. Disconnect the cable that feeds the solenoid, at the battery.

But...but...then the engine won't start. Yes it will, but can run a bit rough for a second or two if it's -10 degrees or thereabouts. That grid heater is more of an emission device than a starting aid, and lots of industrial applications don't have them.

And if you don't wait for the (now non-functional) heating cycle to do its thing and just start the engine right away there should be no codes or CELs.

My 2003 Ram 2500 with 5.7 HEMI is still going strong with 63,400 miles :) Never had an issue.

Lost a hemi in the family due to rain water collecting on the manifold getting sucked in on start grenadine the engine...

Sad because my sister in law liked her Durango.
