I was exchanging a few PM's with another member ,when the question of buying locally / american came up .
It brought up an interesting question . While some of us ( myself included ) champion buy American ( tractors not included /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) How many of us actually stand by that s entiment when we buy an implement ,attachment or accesory ( someting as simple as tire chains ) ?Given the sentiment " buyAmerican " How many of us do just that ?
This would include our neighbors in Canada .

Nixon,
Here in oz they push buy Australian, I buy what suits my budget first and for most.
There is a sad twist to buying home brand above cheap imports, that is that it doesn't matter what you buy, someone loses a job somewhere. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

For me, if it is made in California or China, they both start with a "C" and are the same to me.

I favor buy PENNSYLVANIA! You should feel the same too, NIXON. Your live in this state!

Wait a minute, sorry, I favor buy ALLEGHENY COUNTY! Sorry Nixon, you live in a different county. I can't support business in your county. Have to keep it here at home....

On third thought, Allegheny county can just dream about my money, it's going to say right here in OHIO TOWNSHIP! Yea, who do they think they are expecting me to send them my money? I guess I will have more than I need now...I don't think we make anything much here...hummm...might get hungry...glad I have a spring on my property...I can go ten days probably without food...whoops, forgot we have three geese...might make it a month... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Aw, the heck with it. Now that I think about it, California and China do start with a C. They are far enough away from here that they really are almost the same! I think I will just let them compete for my dollar. Whoever gives me the best value for my money, will get my business. I'm retired and my dollars only go so far.

I am willing to accept donations from the the "buy American" side though, and promise to spend whatever I am given only on American products. PM me and I will advise best way to send funds.

Guess I better start working on a post for a new thread:

"Help Retiree Buy American!"

Oh come on /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Y'all done a lot of traveling; China and California are practically the same /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The big impact won't come from the little do dads that all the Walmart/Target/Kmart/Northern sell. It'll come when we start holding back the produce /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Then you'll have to press those two Kubota's into farm production to make up for the huge % of food stuffs made here in California, the state with a bigger economy than almost any other COUNTRY.

To be on-topic, as a few threads have discussed recently, so it does not have to be re-subjected or merged...

This has been discussed before. I try to buy US based upon what I can find in my local. Note try; many things are hard to find(try to find US goods in Wal Mart). I also complain, although it tends to fall on deaf ears. I have letters out to Home Depot, Wal Mart and other retailers lamenting the shift of production to other countries so they can sell stuff cheap(they usually sell cheap stuff cheap!)

Isn't the largest cash crop produced in California, marijuana??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah it is interesting. I don't specifically try to buy american, but I do try to buy Texan. For example, I will shop at the large grocery store that tries to buy local meat and produce instead of Wally world. Costs about 5-10% more, but worth it to me. I try to drink plenty of shiner Bock beer (used to drink Celis, but got bought out by miller and doesn't taste the same /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) . However, I won't go so far as to drink Lone Star (yuck!) So to make a short story long... I do and I don't

I always enjoy the conversations with people who promote 'buy American' to the point of chastising someone with a foreign branded product. This is especially true if they happen to be union members.

I think my absolute favorite foil would be a Harley riding union member who's also some kind of officer in his or her union. The best scenario is meeting them on their bike while I'm on one of my Goldwings. That's usually enough to get them started. Some of them can be so intractable in their positions it's actually fun to just frustrate the heck out of them with logic and facts. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"Isn't the largest cash crop produced in California, marijuana???"

Believe it or not, that is the case in Kentucky (or at least was a few years ago, according to the US government).

I heard on the news that US manufacturing is up again for the 20th or so straight month. At current growth, there is no way we can continue to support china as there will be far too much American made stuff!

Trouble is all the plants around here are closing, so I cant figure out where all the increase is... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

At least inflation is way down!! That makes me feel so much better when I fill out the loan documents at QuickTrip for a fillup...
