I'm looking at a small tractor for our new home. Don't really need a diesel, but want one.

The "K" dealer near us is an interesting place to visit. IF you're buying a multi-thousand $ excavator, he has the time to answer questions. Their sales personnel don't want to deal with a tire kicker who is interested in a BX series.

Don't have anything to show you, but want you to buy off of a brochure without any hands on time.

VERY STRANGE. I didn't realize that Kubota has such great sales that they can allow their dealers to act this way.

Sad state of affairs with THAT dealer, I would simply move on to another brand or at very least another dealership. (BTW, I use a Kubota & a New Holland and deal with both dealers in my area) Kubota has nearly 60% of the domestic tractor sales under 50hp. In the Sub-CUT category (the BX type tractors, they have a virutal stranglehold on the category).

Other sub-CUT size machines would include (in alphabetical order):
- Case/Farmal DX "e" series
- Cub Cadet 5000 series
- John Deere 2210
- Massey Ferguson GC series
- New Holland TZ series tractors

Kubota started the category with their BX series tractors, they have been around longer than any other brand in this size machine. Some of the competitors have only been available for about 2 years. Each brand has its advantages and disadantages, but the reality is the BX is king of the Sub-CUTs in terms of market share. I always recommend that people bypass bad dealers, no matter what brand they are considering. Sounds like that dealer would qualify as a bad dealer in my book.

Odd, I had the exact opposite dealings with two different Kubota dealers. Kubota's bread & butter is their CUT's & SubCuts sales...

I got a similar negative "rub" from 4 different JD dealers tho...

It would be interesting to note what area your looking in for a BX. Theres quite a few dealers now and perhaps a TBN member whats close to you could recommend a good dealer to deal with.

Between Milwaukee and Chicago right off of I94. There is only one dealer within a nominal driving distance. There is another dealer, but it is a 40 mile drive.

John Deere has a dealer about 10 miles away. I know I may pay a $1000 premium based upon the quotes I have, but man the attitude is worth it.

Sorry if that bursts the bubble of some of the K owners, but when your dealer network in the metro areas is thin, what can you say. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't think you can take one incident/bad experience and make a blanket statement about any tractor manufacturer.

Go to Kubota web site and search the dealer locator function and find another one.

Geez! I kinda wonder if the folks who own the Kubota dealership in our California town also own the one in yours too ??? I gave up trying to talk with these people a while ago and just ended up buying another brand ,wish I am really tickled with . Some dealers, in all brands ,need a lesson in Salesmanship 101 if they expect to stay in business long .

It sounds like you walked into a Kubota Construction Equipment dealer. I am sure that is why the salesperson was not interested in talking BXs with you. CE dealers can usually get a tractor off the locater, but don't normally stock them.

I would not blame the brand, but the dealer. I walked into a JD dealer and had the same experience. They didn't care about under 50hp sales either...

When people ask me about what the best tractor is, I say it is not about the tractor but the service from the dealer. I chose my tractor based on the dealership first, and the tractor second. There is nothing worse than a good tractor and bad service from a dealership. You spend tens of thousands of dollars, and expect a little service and respect. JD and Kubota make good tractors, so I would find a dealership that wants your business...

For what it's worth I had the same 1st impression qwith my Kubota Dealer in Joliette.
I bought a B7610 on june 9th and was supposed to have it delivered on the 23rd.

For 2 weeks the salesman told me it wouldnt be long, I escalated to the owner of the dealership last monday. He told me there was a defective par ( something called like a Bell housing..... I don t have a clues what that is!!!).

Long story shord Friday they called me back and delivered me a used B21 free of charge until I get my B7610. The owner gave me the cell phone number of the Service dept Manager and said I could call him anytime.

So maybe it's worth it to escalate sometimes or like someone said find another dealer.... sometimes the worse ones in a dealer are the salesman.... after all they are human.
