Talking to the local Kubota dealer and he said 80% of the tractors that come in for service have bad fuel filters. He said never mind the hrs just change the filter every year and a lot of problems will go away. Interesting

Interesting. 13 Kubotas in 9 years and the only fuel filter I ever changed was the one on the Gas Kubota mower. The rubber ring on the gas lid fell into the gas tank and partially dissolved and a part of it was trapped in the "gas" fuel filter. I could see it in the filter or part of it since I pulled most of the ring out of the gas tank. It was just laying in the gas tank.
Oh, have never had any type fuel or running issues with any of my Kubotas, except the one "gas" one with the plugged filter.

In 10 years have changed it twice and have never had an issue with my 2710

John,

How many hours are you putting on those tractors?? I have had my BX24 since Dec 2007 and am approaching 850 hours. I change those filters every 100 hours.
I agree that if you only use the tractor "sparingly" (forlack of better word) that not changing it every year is not an issue. I would not go by "yeraly" as that dealer says. But I would NOT wait till 500 hours as the manual states.

By the way JohnThomas, you have had quite a "Fleet" over the yeras haven't you!!:)

I have put maybe 80 in a bit over a year on the BX25, about 100 on the F2680E in 43 months, under 30 on the L3240 (to big, wouldn't use much) and maybe 40 on the BX2350 (jerked in reverse bad so got rid of it quick) in 12 months, maybe 100 on the F3080 in 18 months, had a BX2200 (first tractor) maybe 100 in a year, a B7800 120 in 36 months and a BX1500 probably 120 hrs in 36 months. Not sure about the others. I probably do about 50 a year on the tractors, more on the home mower. Use the BX25 more than any other tractor I've owned. Had the B7800 and BX1500 at the same time and had them a bit over three years, till they were paid off. Those were the longest I've owned any except for the F2680 which I use for mowing the rental property and made my last payment on in December which was the forty second month of ownership.
I guess I have had a variety over the years.:)
Had read a thread several years ago that for some reason which escapes me now convinced me to add a dollop of Power Service in the white bottle to my fuel which I've done (not always regularly) over the years. Currently out but WalMart has it for $7 for 32 oz so I'll get more the next time I'm at WalMart. Maybe that has done something and maybe not. Don't care but for $7 for several years I'll use it.
I'm not "much" of a believer in a liquid that I can pour into a hole in a vehicle that is not recommended by the manufacturer or Popular Mechanics or Car & Driver, except for big full page Glossy ads as being of positive benefit. Growing up Motor Honey was the cure or preventative in a can. Didn't have "much" faith in it then but not saying I never put a can of it in a car.:) Mostly figure I wasted the money on a couple of cans of it but maybe not. Sure not going to give a glowing endorsement that it kept my car going when everyone elses stopped.:D Don't actually believe it even made my car faster or slower but I do have old chums who say it was from Heaven and that's OK to.
Barlows gave me the necessary materials for my 50 hours service on my Kubotas and I got filters (several). Maybe in the spring I'll dig some of them out and at this point in my life and the life of my machines change their filters. Then I'll start telliing how I always change my filters and how they make my Kubotas keep running better and longer and it's the only way to go. I'll change from the no filter changer to the filter changer and now, or when I do it, become the supporter of always changing filters.
EDIT: Oops! I just reread your post and saw where you say the Manuf recommends at 500 hours. Didn't notice that and I was running thru my mind as to whether I should go ahead this morning and get those filters changed. Guess those filters will stay in the box or boxes a bit longer except maybe on my F2680 due to age (over 43 months old). May change a filter in the spring or a warm day when I've got a few minutes to change a filter. Most every thing on the F is right in your face so shouldn't take but a minute on it and I've got filters. I'm one of those big on Manuf recommendations. Changed SUDT at 50 several years ago when Kubota said to do it and now do it at the interval that they now recommend and have for the past several years. I think 200 hours, will check to be sure.

Deano - I took delivery of my 7510 Feb of 2007 and have 720 hours. You get a lot of seat time!! Have changed the filter once and cleaned the sediment bowl twice.

Two things:
1. Modern fuels are sorry. The EPA regulations have just about rendered them useless. Talk to just about any mechanic, and they will tell you to dispose of any fuel that's over 3 months old. (the ethanol/gasoline junk won't last that long)

2. Your fuel source makes a HUGE difference. I have bulk tanks for my fuel, with a fuel filter/water separator unit on the pump. I rarely change a fuel filter on a truck or tractor. I used to have a fuel cap that read, "Buy clean fuel. Keep it clean." Good advice.

Agree with Bigfoot, The deference is where you get your desiel from. I go to the truck stops on the main interchange.

my l2500 started running badly at 250 hrs-changed fuel filter and all probs went away-im a believer-got to also believe the dealer knows what he's talking about and he sure isn't making much on the filters- a lot more on the repair calls which turn out to be bad filters:thumbsup:
