Tractor
MF 1540 4wd,loader, R-4s
Hi, I am looking a 1972 IH 1066,cab,heat,new paint, interior redone,116HP w/turbo,dual PTO's,and dual hyd. remotes.
I drove for 3hrs to go look at this tractor and drive it. The T.A. is good, good clutch, pto, hyd. tires, started right up,nothing has been welded or cobbled on. The draw bar shows a little wear from pulling plows or disc's. But nothing major. The price they have on it is $7,900. They said they would also give me a deal and delever it to Caldwell,OH from Amherst,OH. The photo is attached of the actual tractor.

I am thinking about putting a Bush Hog loader (3226QT) on it if i get it, to move hay, and do some dirt work.

I am interested in your comment's about the price, the tractor(good, bad,or know for problems),the loader,or anything.

P.S. - sorry about the long post.

Thanks, Ryan

What a beautiful piece of iron. I'd say it has a remanufacture TA, engine and fuel pump. Blow some black smoke and live on Red Iron. I grew up a Deere man but still got to love the IH 1066, RED POWER

Those were pretty good tractors. They go pretty cheap at auctions and that's a premium price but it looks to be in premium shape.

Nobody else has anything to say, about whether this tractor will work good with a loader or not. I have been reading up on the 1066 and so far everything I have heard is good.

That tractor will work fine with a loader. If it's an option I would get the joystick control and have it plumbed in rather than running it off of the scv's.

That is an exceptionally nice looking 1066. The engine condition isn't hard to determine with a little checking. I would probably be most concerned with the TA, as that is a big ticket item to repair. If the tractor spent it's working life in an area with big fields, the TA may have spent most of the time in high (direct) drive and not have gotten a lot of shift abuse. We have a lot of 20 acre fields around here and that's tough on them. Suggest you check there is AMPLE pressure to the power steering and brakes as I believe the TA shares this pump. Also may want to confirm TA does not disengage while decelerating or engine braking. I think this symptom was a sign of bad things to come.

Remanufactured T/A,s are available (after-market) with increased duribility, and five year parts and labor warranty, 1066's are inexpensive to rebuild, and are durable when rebuilt properly, parts are reasonable, and readily available
