International 1066

The only drawback to older barnyard Buick's is the rotary pump.

Stanadyne or Rosa Master pumps are at best a very expensive rebuild. Nice thing about them is that as long as the fuel is clean they last about forever.

The 1066 in the picture is about the straightest unit I have seen. Most farm auction units are run hard and put away wet.

Even the R1's have plenty of life left. That is a premium price for a 1066 though.

Planetary underdrive basicly... Gives one "in between" gears...

Sorry for the late response...
The 1066 has it's place as Cowboy Doc eluded...(You will find that Cowboy Doc has a very balanced view of equipment that is not colored by the color of the paint).
The 1066 reputation is that it "uses at lot of fuel" BUT it also does a lot of work when it is using all that fuel. It's a very well built tractor.. We had a 966 on the dairy farm when I was younger. It was a very dependable tractor. The TA (Torque Amplifier) was an option that IH first started with their model "M" Farmall. These first TA's had some problems. After many problems with the TA on the model "m" as well as the 460 and 560 International Harvester made major changes to the TA These were excellent improvements that resulted in a very durable TA.
Will it be a good tractor with a loader?
Yes but normally a loader tractor is in the 70 -90 horsepower range.
The bottom line I see is this is a very nice looking tractor. When I purchase something I rely on the exterior appearance to determine how good the interior (internal components) have been cared for.
I definately would buy that tractor at the price you stated.
Hope you find my opinion helpful.

Delivery will save you $300-$400.
My buddy has a non cab 966 and put a Koyker loader on it. So far, so good for almost 10 years of hot Texas haybaling. He's had to put a new $400 radiator on it. A few other normal maintenance things too.
Does anyone know how well the AC/Heat works and how long one can expect it to last???

I used to have a 1466 that I got from inlaws, fine tractor.
From what i remember the 10xx series up have the heavier rear end.
The 9xx series down used a smaller one.
We worked a lot of ground for 20 years w/ it and no major repairs.
I traded it in 2 years ago on my 40D and got $9000 on trade.
It didn't have a cab.
