International 234 Hydro

Hello,

I have a mint condition International 234 Hydro that my parents bought new in 1986. I should say, it is 99% mint, because there is a PTO gear that acquired a mean flat spot in it when my son tried to engage the rear PTO without the clutch in.

The gear is part number 1273740C1 and I am really hoping that someone out there may have a lead on where to find a used part for this machine. I have done a lot of googling and sent some emails and have gone down a few dead ends. I came across a place that says that can machine down the gear and put a sleeve on it and cut new gears but local machinists say this would be near impossible.

Please let me know if you have any leads on any tractor salvages that may have a 234 Hydro sitting there. The standard transmission uses a different PTO set up so unfortunately it has to be a Hydro.

Anyone have any leads on parts for this little tractor? I found a gear that someone made but the metal is soft and the internal pattern was off so after spending a lot of money I am still not confident in using this tractor.

When I tried to look it up it looked like it has an internal spline that rides on the shaft with external gear teeth;
if the internal spline is good turning the old teeth off, welding a press fit hub on to it and machining new gear teeth would be quite doable.
For that matter a good machinist could make the entire gear it would be expensive.
