A couple of thoughts.
The IH 300/350 had true live power... not a two stage clutch like say a MF 35 or one of those. That featured a through shaft to a lockable planetary overrunning unit in the PTO housing. Band activated and easily serviced.
On the PSteering. The Utility steered like a b$#@%. What I did was add a home designed unit that is true hydrostatic. The parts are available for 500-600, and work well. The first attempt was adding a torque multiplier like the 300 Farmall had in line but that ate the worm gears fast. Worked well otherwise, but resurfacing the worm and dog gear was expensive every 500 hours.
