The Looking Glass report is great if you are hard wired all the way. But when the packets move over to satellite or wireless other sites are preferred.
testmy.net seems to be preferred by satellite users. Speedtest.net is good too.

Try ping. Can't get simpler. And that way you can easily go to any site. Or for the command line impaired use a utility like PingTestEasy.
