Internet Explorer Guru\'s HELP!!!

OK guys I have an issue with IE6 that just popped up and I don't know how to "fix it". Whenever I click a link to another website, the new page opens minimized. See attached screen shot. I know it's easy enough to just click the box and open it, but it used to open full size, no more.
Where can I find the fix for this? I've been all over IE help and Microsoft's support pages.

Re: Internet Explorer Guru\'s HELP!!!

Did you install any new programs lately or how about a virus. A virus can do funny things like that also. Update your virus program. Does it do that when you first start up IE? There use to be a switch in the properties in regards to how a new window opened up but I just can't find it right now.

Wished I could be of more help.

Re: Internet Explorer Guru\'s HELP!!!

Nothing new installed recently, did do an Ad-aware scan and fixed some issues there. Virus protection is 2 months expired, gotta fix that too /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Jerry, it might be a good time to try out AVG's free anti-virus program. Free automatic updates too.

AVG Free Edition

Re: Internet Explorer Guru\'s HELP!!!

Well, for now, all is well. Did a System Restore to a point before I had the problem. Downloaded AVG, it still found one Trojan virus.
But I know there is a way to change a setting in Internet Options to make a new window open full size, I just can't find it.

Jerry, if you find it, let me know. I've been looking for about 9 months now /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Internet Explorer Guru\'s HELP!!!

Try this:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers2.htm#window_small

I also copied this from a newsgroup message:

"Close all windows EXCEPT the one that open "minimized"; right click on your
Task Bar, either on the open space on the right or left end (your choice);
select "Tile Windows Horizontally" and IE will maximize; close IE. Re-open
IE and it will be maximized. Just showed a buddy this trick yesterday and
works like a charm. Enjoy."

It does work like a charm.

Here's another approach from a Frank Saunders post:

"From: http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/offpos.htm

Symptom: IE opens a maximized window shifted down and to the right.

Remove any 'Auto-hide' option for the taskbar and while the window is
maximized, resize the taskbar then return it to the desired size. This is to
try to make Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

If no joy, run regedit and remove these registry key values:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Desktop\OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Then reboot.

Re: Internet Explorer Guru\'s HELP!!!

Did you try to re-size the window by grabbing a corner?

Billy.........Since I'm among the last people on earth with no cable TV and still with dial-up on AOL, Got any idea how long the free version of AVG takes to download ?? I may have to use the computer for something else the end of the week and it might take that long /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Internet Explorer Guru\'s HELP!!!

It's about 7 1/2 meg. I didn't have any success installing it myself. For some reason it wanted to install the Red Hat Cygwin environment, and I really don't need that on my windows system. Also, the instructions are unclear (non-existant) as to where to download the Cygwin files (internet or local).

Re: Internet Explorer Guru\'s HELP!!!

Tom, I have dial-up too but I do have cable TV /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's been so long now that I don't remember how big the file is. I know it didn't take all that long though. I've been using the free AVG for several years now and I believe it's as good (if not better) as any out there.
