Glad they raised the cone of silence or it would have been awfully smoky in there. That is another thing that has changed, smoking in the office.

Sure has come a long way. When I got my first taste of working on computers they were quite advanced:
8" floppies with 128kB of storage
Hard drives that fit in 19" racks and used a special alignment tool - the hooked clothes hanger
Dual VGA monitors (had to use a X10 probe to measure the 14kVolts on the anode of the tube)
3ft wide Keyboards with 60 special function buttons that lit up when activated (because every one had it's own individual lamp)
A 3ft card cage to hold the power supply and stuff that today would make up the motherboard.

Not sure when the Internet became mainstream. I remember Bush Jr. talking about the information highway, and thought he was just babling on as usual! Next thing, it was here, amazing!

Remember when Computer **** was a picture printed on a dot matrix tractor feed printer in ASCII charactors? Actually, I used an ASR 33 teletype machine and acoustic modem operating at 110 baud for that purpose. Loved that hot oil smell!

USENET is not dead...still lots of die-hards that don't care for a sexy interface (and they know how to make their own smiley faces ;-)...!)
