I'm getting a bit frustrated with the long drive to my local blue tractor dealer not to mention it seems their prices are pretty outrageous...last price quote was a $50 glow plug timer which I chose to not buy at that price and bypass.

There must be a good internet supplier out there that is more reasonable on prices. Messicks is great but same price as my local dealer. Anyone find a good source for simple stuff like oil/hydraulic filters and other parts.

thanks!

Messick's enjoys a large online following. Their pricing seems to be right at MSRP most of the time. If your dealer's prices are similar to Neil's, then the problem is with the manufacturer, or your perception of what the part SHOULD cost, not the dealer. $50 for the most common glow plug timer relay from New Holland is the going rate. The chances of you finding a dealer selling parts to the casual buyer for less than MSRP is somewhere between slim and none; probably closer to none. There was another outfit that made a big splash here about as month or so ago, but they seem to have blown right out about as fast as they blew in.

Remember.. casal sales support your dealer. things like filters and such.. etc.

In the past when i've had mechanical problems and needed phone tech support.. or needed my machine brought in for service.. I'm sure it helps that my dealer knows that i support him by buying parts and some consumables from him.. etc.

I've had good luck with brimstore.com. Prices cheaper than my dealer, no sales tax, and free shipping on orders over $250.

It is the norm in the parts business to mark things up beyond MSRP. We do add a small markup to things that cost very little simply because it costs more to handle them than their profit margin. I think what really sets us appart is that we've got the best phone/internet support people you'll find. Pricing is great and all, but we all know that servies is what really sets a business appart.

I always try to support my local businesses, however when I need an expensive part ($1,000) and I can save over $200 plus tax buying it online from a dealer who I have never spent a dime with apparently my local dealer isn't treating me vary fair to begin with. Do larger dealers get a price break from the manufactures for volume?

I agree about supporting the local dealers and I do to some extent, but Messicks has been much more efficient, supportive, and helpful. Jay :)

As more dealers invest in processing online parts orders the better it will get for equipment owners. The new choices will ensure competitive prices and improved service. This will initially happen online but ultimately be pushed down to the brick and mortar locations.

price is more important to me than a chatty relationship... allstate saved me hundreds over state farm, granted i won't get the 10 cent Christmas card in one-colour ink, but hey, i can buy my own ;)
i've saved 'thousands' on a grand piano between two different dealers, do you think i care if i bought it off a good looking woman or an old man?
walmart is THRIVING in the new global recession economy, not the great service you get a tiffany's... price is the shizzle, not service in a recession.

If you think service counts for nothing.. wait till your price-only shizzle dealer disappears on you one day leaving you belly up...

I rate a dealers service very heavilly when i plan on making a purchas.

IE.. when i brake down in a field is my dealer going to take my call and give me tech support.. or be able to send a mechanic out.. or be able to pick it up and fix it for me?

Will he offer me a loaner?

I'll bet the guy that has rock bottom prices won't be able to offer those extra's or not for long..
