Internet Parts?? Anyone find a good supplier?

My dealer is 20 miles away. My tractor is old so the dealer usualy doesn't have the parts in stock. He has to order them and charges me shipping(understandable). So it is easier for me to order online and have the parts delivered to my door.

If anyone needs parts in the South, my dealership now has New Holland parts diagrams available on our website under the "Parts" tab. We don't have online shopping capability yet (hope to soon), but you can look up the part number yourself and just shoot us an email for pricing. We ship out everyday at low, actual shipping cost.

Give us a try if you need parts shipped to your door:

New Holland Tractors - Honda - Stihl - Newnan Georgia - Riding Mowers - Gravely - Coweta County - Meriwether County - Metro Atlanta - Atlanta Georgia

Hmm.. NH dealers are usually pretty good about keeping common legacy parts around.. especially since many parts fit a huge range of machines.

I've went in to order fuel system parts for my 33yr old ford 5000 .. expecting to have to order them.. and bought them on the spot.. ditto that for a hyds lift cover rebuild kit that fit my 1955 ford 660. I was amazed at that one really... parts ma said there were simply too many of them out there to -not- stock them. I think part of that is the key.. large production run machines usually fare better with parts support compaired to lower run machines.. etc.

fundamentally "I" am buying "Parts", dealers are "selling" "service". Keep the service and give me the part cheaper. call messick's and others, they'll all give you quality advice for free, then buy the part at the cheapest place... isn't that WHY we sign up here? for free advice to $ave money? that's why i do.
and few here have a ve$ted interest to taint their opinion. i much more enjoy the quality and advice of people here than paying for it at a parts counter and waiting in a line.
you can buy the sizzle, i'll buy the steak! :D
again, this applies to parts. so if A is selling X and B is selling X, you are buying X NOT A or B. get X the cheapest, it's a no brainer.
the reason items cost more in some places is they cant control their costs and pass them on to the consumer. i look for a savy retailer that can control costs and offer me the savings.. but what the heck do i know..

I can't stand working with uneducated and uninformed parts suppliers. I'll gladly pay a little more for good service, because in the long run it will be less costly, less time consuming, and a lot less frustrating to get the right part installed right the first time. Messick's has been very reliable. They've been happy to go so far as to fax me diagrams, etc when needed. I want a dealer like that around. I suppose taking advantage of them by getting free advice and then going elsewhere could be described as capitalism at its finest, but it just doesn't agree with my morals.

This is the core of why we now have a Walmart economy. Rather than buy quality and service we choose a substandard experience and Chinese crap.

Fortunately I feel like things are headed the other direction. Enough people are starting to realize that there is more to the equation than saving a dollar.

Thanks to everyone for commenting on my post on trying to find a bit better pricing on parts for our blue field helpers. Many good points were made including supporting a local dealer(as I do when possible) and also the good internet stores like Messicks. I guess what really this comes down to is times are getting tougher and most of us tractor guys tend to be pretty hands on and can do a lot ourselves so there's a lot of savings both in labor and I was hoping parts as well. I don't have a problem with anyone making a reasonable profit but I think our problem is the manufacturer has just set pricing at an outrageous level on some parts. The relays that control lights/safety/etc can be bought at local car shops for under $5 but New Holland wants $25; I checked on the price of an OEM starter....boy don't ever do that is was like $400 I think, was cheaper to have a local guy rebuild mine.

So the problem isn't the local sales channel I guess, it's the unrealistic prices that come to us from the manufacturer.

I think this forum could provide a great service to pass on ideas of replacement or interchangable parts so we don't have to buy original blue. You dealers as well as internet suppliers could well do the same, give us some options on replacing common controls, filters, etc and we'll turn our business your way. Just because New Holland buys parts like relays, etc from a supplier and resells them doesn't justify 3 or 4 times the original cost....but that's my view; just a retiree who still has to work to buy the parts.

The rule of thumb for an OEM is that you need to double your money on parts. Now there is a HUGE amount of overhead involved so much of that goes to cover the simple cost of stocking, picking and carrying inventory. We know well, we sit on $5,000,000 of inventory at most times.

When it comes to things like starters, alternators, etc most any dealer worth their salt can tell you if there is remanufactured or aftermarket versions available. Often there is. Infact New Holland brands a line called MegaVolt that is exactly that.

This is one area where the internet will never be good enough to connect the dots in the way that a good parts technician can.

when i need my tractor fixed.. now.. I won't be getting it fixed by the discount aftermarket dealer.. i will be my local dealer.. and when i need it now.. it helps to hve a good relationship .. and that usually means helping him keep food on his table and his light bill paid...

Interesting position. This begs the question: If your assertion is that I should support my local dealer, even at a higher cost, to help keep the dealer in business. Since the OEM's also need the profit from parts to sustain their inventories, and their parts network. Is it not then a bit hypocritical, for you then, to suggest non-OEM parts?

Yes, this situation is exacerbated on by the OEM's pricing on items like starters, and alternators. Prices that are often many times that of a similar automotive part. Giving at the very least, the appearance of profiteering. This of course, leaves the door wide open for aftermarket manufacturers, and rebuilders to under cut them.

If you always go to the dealer, and always buy OEM, your going to pay more, and more, as time goes on. And, if you don't support the dealer, and the OEM, they may not be there, when you need them.

My point is, like everything else, there has to be a balance. Then, we can all survive.
