Hello everyone. New guy here. I've been trying to absorb all the info on this site and decided to register today. A friend and I are both looking for new tractors. Been looking at JD, NH, and Kubota. Not really sure what to go with yet but I am leaning towards the "Orange" one,L40 Series. We both have 100+ acres of land that is used mostly for hunting and hay fields. So the tractor will be used for clearing trails, pulling logs and general cutting/tilling operations. I have been using a 3000 Ford for years and basically looking for something to replace it....ie. same HP range. I would like to have a FEL. Already have 72" bush hog, 60" tiller, snow blower(it snows a little here in MN),and most of the other small 3-point implements that I have for my 8N. I would like HST since so much of my work is in the woods.

I am wondering how many of you have purchased a tractor via internet and where a good place to get a deal would be. We are going to see if we can get better pricing by purchasing two. How about shipping? Can anyone tell me what to expect. These will be going to North Central MN.

Thank you,
WW

Just wondering why you would want to purchase a tractor over the internet?? I think you would get a better deal talking to a dealer in person than over the phone or internet.

I've been to the nearest dealer (not much in stock) and seems that the prices I have seen on line are much better. I understand that I should support my local dealer but seem to have seen some great deals on-line. I will see if he will match price and if it is in the same range I will buy local.
His price;
L5030 with LA853=$27,135
L5740 with LA844=$31,785

Best quote I received on a 5740 here in Louisiana was $29000 with R1 tires and 854 loader. You can buy from another dealer like Carver, but you will forgo the 0% financing unless you actually close the deal in person at the dealership.

Carver has a 5240 for $26800 and a 5740 for $27111 with an 854 loader on both. Check out Carver Equipment Introduction cool season deals.

All of these tractors are pre "-1" engines. "-1" engine tractors will be significantly more. Your dealer can check the locator for the pre -1 engines and help you save some money.

I purchased an L3400/w LA463 loader last summer in a neighboring state for $14,500. Machine had 62 hours and was sitting at a reputable dealership that I did some online checking on. The price was negotiated as an out the door price prepped and no taxes. It was an excellent transaction! That is not to take anything away from a local dealer but I really don't want to do business with the one in my area. Of course I didn't pay a penny until we inspected and drove the machine. It was even better then described. Yes, you can certainly find some deals online. Just be diligent and factor in your drive and expenses. $4 gasoline does not help.

Yes everything is fine if you want to buy online or from another state. But I have heard so many horror stories on this site about people going to another dealer for warrenty issues and the dealers either not wanting to do it or taking forever. So it might cost more money in the long run...

Thank you guys. I have found some decent deals on line and was hoping to hear some positive replies.

Can anyone tell me how the heck to do a PM on this site.

Thanks Hammer.....I figured it out.

What is the big difference between the -1 engine and the old one? I'm new to looking at Kubota's so my knowledge on them is minimal.

FWIW shopped Mutton Power on-line (a supporter of this site I believe) and even with shipping their quotes were better than the 4 dealers in and around the MSP area. That said I bought local and used Mutton pricing to keep 'everyone honest' since I knew that I'd need a good service and support center since I'm a newbie

Good luck
