Hi. I'm a new member. I live on 22 acres, house, some timber, CRP and CREP land, a creek, wildlife and a lot of quiet. Used to raise lambs and rabbits, but no more. I work off of the farmette and home is a retreat from the business of the day. I've always been a John Deere owner. Currently have a JD 2320 with FEL, MMM, tiller and 5' rear mount mower. Have enjoyed reading TBN for a some time and am always learning from those more experienced. Had the day off and thought it was time to jump in and join. I look forward to participating.

Where at in central Illinois, I live in Macomb. I am a land surveyor, and I have done about 40-60 surveys for ground that went in the CREP program. Fun surveys, welcome to the site.

On the edge of the prairie between Decatur and Monticello. I remember the day the land surveyor surveyed. I have a small white pine forest on the east and in order to set the east property line, they had to "lay off" to the east with witness stakes. When they were finished, they left all the stakes all over the neighbors property. She was up in arms over me "claiming" part of her ground. I explained ... and explained ... and explained the why's and what's ... and that I wasn't trying to steal her land. She finally calmed down. The survey team should have attempted to contact her. It would have made my life easier ... and more fun.

"Overwhelmingly, people learn by observation. There are also some who learn by experimentation. And then there are those who actually TOUCH the fire to see if it's really hot." 泡nonymous

My guess is those stake were random traverse points, kind of a working point that only means something to surveyors. We do the same thing and it does cause confusion sometime, Illinois has a right of entry, which means we can go on someone elses property to complete a survey. I used to try to contact owners and let them know what we are doing. I've kind of given up doing that since so many owners are gone. If its obvious someone is home, we try and contact them.
