Invasion of the City Folk

Deer755 - you hit the nail on the head - they just dont have a clue. Where I live all the neighbors have land and the one just asked if they could skid their leaves on a little tarp across my field to dump them over the hill on my land. Ok, it is just leaves, their yard is on the side of the mountain, mine is downhill - don't hurt a thing, leaves makes great compost (with some help) - of course I told them, seeing they asked I have NO problem with it. It is nice to have good friendly neighbors.

These are good people they just don't have a clue what rural life is like.

I gotta agree with that. When I lived out in Carnation (stones throw to Microsoft campus), the new rich tried to close a 75 year old sheep ranch, without success. Probably just a matter of time though.

I like country smells. I used to do the potato harvest up in Muleshoe Tx. and it was downwind from one of the biggest feedlots in the area. NOW THAT was bad.

Anyhow, Ernie I have a question about your comment that the property value will drop. Dont you think it would be more valuable when you are of the few places remaining and they could subdivide it? I really dont know for sure but thats my thought. However, with eminant domain, who knows.......

I could be wrong, HOWEVER piece of mind = versus money
the call is his.

Too bad for you.

Yep. Seems like someone made a big change. Any public hearings about this? Doubt it. Encroachment and zoning issues always seem to pop up when urbanites meet country folks. The planning commissions don't seem to help the issues either. Without setbacks you have both parties clinging to their ways of life. In the end there really are no winners. The urbanites will tire of the sprawl they themselves became a part of, the farm view they had is lost. the country people move and a way of life is forever lost.

Too bad for us all in the long run.

And whatta you wanna bet that 2/3rds of the new residents will site their desire to "go live in the country" if asked why they bought their lot.

It's really hard to say.... Just wish I could afford to own several hundred acres and create my own subdivision. No people allowed /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif....

Same way with airports. They build in the flight pattern then complain about the noise the planes make........how silly is that?

I have learned not to rely on the unoccupied land next to me as a people buffer. Seems anyone who builds next to a large undeveloped tract expects it to stay way forever. The only way that will happen is if you own it. When a 1/2 acre came up for sale that attached to my 55 acres, I bought it. Why? to keep someone else from getting it. Could not make my wife understand (she grew up on a postage stamp in NJ). My attitude, hang the property taxes, its worth it to me to keep folks away from me. Does that sound anti social? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sorry to hear that Jerry.
My experience is that people want to live in the "counrty" , but when then get there, they want it to be like what thay had in the city. And yes, I believe that they will view your property as an extension of theirs, when it suits them.

Had a similar problem with my neighbor. Seems it was easier to go through a gap in the trees on my property than to go up the hill on his.
I planted trees in the gap. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
