IPT 589\'s on RTV

Has anyone installed IPT 589 26x12-12 tire on the RTV and is so how do they perform?

Do they rub?

Or should I use a different size 589?

Re: IPT 589\'s on RTV

Charles,

I run 589's on my one ATV in the winter.
They don't give a very nice ride on hard packed or paved surfaces. You'll get a pretty decent massage due to the vibration.
Are you considering these as the primary (sole) set of tires or as conditions dictate?

Re: IPT 589\'s on RTV

Main tire. I do all the driving in our pasture or on gravel roads so the ride is not all that great anyway.

My RTV is coming with the Kubota ATV tires but it gets really slick when that GA red clay gets wet so I wanted the biggest and most aggressive tire I could fit.

Is 26x 12-12 the right tire for the front and rear?

Re: IPT 589\'s on RTV

I'm thinking they should be 26x10x12. (not 12x12)
Don't quote me.
Dozernut is the only person I can think of out here that has the 589's on. Maybe he can answer what size he put on. I believe he's running 26" but will need to answer whether they're 10x12 or 12x12.

EDIT
PS. Do a search on 589 in the ATV forum for more info and opinions. They may tear things up more than you would want.

Re: IPT 589\'s on RTV

I have a buddy who had a set of 589's on his Yamaha Rhino. He really liked them and said that they pulled very strong in the deep mud, but ripped his yard up pretty bad. Based on that, I bought the Maxxis Bighorn Radials for my RTV. After taking this same guy out mudding in my RTV with the Bighorns, guess what he did? He put on a set of 27" Bighorns on his Rhino. Guess what I just ordered for my Rhino....a set of 27" Bighorns. Glenn, my buddy with the Rhino, tells me that the Bighorns pull as well as the 589's on his Rhino but do not do the damage to has yard and ride a lot better.

If by chance you do go with Bighorns for your RTV, 25" is the biggest that will fit. Bczoom and I both are running the 25" Bighorns on our RTV's and they are at least 26" tall. I can't speak for bczoom, but I really like them. Unfortunately, it seems that the Bighorns are more expensive though. For a while almost every place was out of them too. I've been waiting for a month now for the 27" ones to come in. They have been shipped now. I can't wait to get 'em on.

Good luck with whatever you go with. I'm sure that they will likely be better than the stock tires.

I sent you a pm on the 589's. Great tire, I really like them.

Cracker--

Before you commit to the 589s you might want to look at the Essex Surefoots at www.essexmfg.com; the sidewalls are fortified for heavier vehicles than ATVs and have kevlar belting and can run flat. I had a little episode in the woods a month or two ago that led me to carry jack down the hill, a tire up the hilln and send the winch to the service center . . . not pretty. I got the Surefoots and have not put them to a huge test yet (the winch isn't back), but the difference is dramatic just on some little mudhills close to the house.

I also got Essex's replacement skid plates for the RTV, which I don't see on their website but which are probably 4 times larger than the stock plates and cover a bunch more of the bottom of the vehicle. They were something like $129 and took an hour or so to install.

Re: IPT 589\'s on RTV

I'm pretty sure that the 589's are 6 ply tires and relatively durable. Obviously any tire can be shredded. With the UV's it seems like you sort of walk that line of getting a tire that grips well, is durable, but isn't so stiff that it doesn't flex at all and weighs so much that it effects the performance of the UV. I like the 589's, the ITP Mud Lites, the Maxxis Bighorn Radials and the GPC Dirt Devil. For straight mud performance, it seems that the 589's are hard to beat. I just like the ride and overall performance of the Bighorns. I guess that is why they make so many different ATV tires; to confuse us and take our money! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'm confident that there are many different tires out there that are excellent. My only suggestion would to try to drive someone's UV that has the tires on it that you are considering. That seems to be the only for me to make up my mind. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Good luck!

Re: IPT 589\'s on RTV

I'm sure you're right, Dargo. I'm a complete neophyte at this; the one thing I know for sure is that the RTV Worksite tires aren't designed for MY "worksite!"

Re: IPT 589\'s on RTV

Just got the RTV today and I'm not sure if I need anything other than the ATV tires that come on the CAMO model. I use it in north Georgia and it's been raining for three days. So far this RTV has gone everywhere I want it to go. Up and down hills I can't walk because of the slick mud.

This tranny is so much different than a geared unit like the Mule or Ranger but I love it. Much better for jest moving around the property. Not a hot rod play toy but real power it has lots of and then some.
