Irises is the plural. 
I'm astounded at how tiny a lot of native orchids are around here. Unless you have a local enthusiast show you, you'd completely miss them.

I am far from being an expert but we have found a lot in the high country and there is even one that flowers underground, the dipodium punctatum is due to start flowering soon and is very common on the roadside.
THAT made me feel good and is about the only one I know the botanical name for, commonly known as the hyacinth orchid, purple stalk, quite tall and multiple purple flowers.
I will stick with playing guitar.
