Looking for suggestions on how to build a clean source of water for vegetable irrigation from a low area. 50 years ago it fed a house. Looks like it was a springhouse sort of arrangement. There is plenty of water I just need to collect it cleanly so I can pump it. ThanKs for any suggestions

You can use rain water too, if you have plenty.

What I'm looking for are suggestions on how to construct a source for water from a swampy area. I will be feeding 2 acres of veggies. I was thinking maybe 55 gallon drums connected and surrounded by gravel? any thoughts

Might consider a swimming pool sand filter with a backwash valve that allows you to flush it clean as needed. For the pickup I would want a large screened (use shaker screen) box with plenty of surface area to block the larger trash. You can use a push broom to clean of trash from the screen.

Welcome to TBN
I water less area but basically I just dug a hole in a swampy area and made sure the pump inlet hose was suspended between the bottom and surface. The little "pond" acted as a settling basin. Eventually we dug out the swampy area completely and now have a big pond. Your idea of barrels and gravel should work fine but if the hole is big enough you won't need the barrels
