Is a 4.6 v8 enough in a full size F-150

255/70r16 which is the stock size.
I think my Town Car had the towing package which gave it a 3.27 ratio.

They geared a lot of those truck too high for the size tires they had. You probably need 4.10's in it.

I'm getting lost in all of the physics but I can say that my 6.2, 404HP with 3:42's pulls a 8000# net and over 9000# gross just fine, even in the PA mountains.. My BIL had a 4.8 Chevy PU that he pulled a 20' Four Winns V8 boat with and it seemed to struggle with it. The smaller V8's weren't really designed to be beaten like that..They appear to be light use trucks. Nothing wrong with that if that is your purpose. Brand is irrelevant.

Buy what you need and step up one...The wife wanted me to buy a Denali DRW 4x4 DMAX--That was a step too far, although I did ponder it for a minute.

It will be enough but I would make sure it has 3.73 or 4.10 gears. Anything higher and it will be a pig.

If it were me I would hold out for a 5.4L motor.

Totally agree. Never heard anyone say they have been happy with the 4.6. on the other hand zero complaints from this guy on the 5.4L...........o wait there is the spark plug issue. But I believe that is on both engines

I have a 4.7 Dodge 2002 1/2 ton and have pulled at least 7,000 lbs for about 50 miles. Would not want to try interstate speeds but with come common sense, u sb ok. If trailer doesn't have brakes, be even more careful.
